This summer the Immigration Museum’s galleries, courtyard, and Long Room become dance-floors for spontaneous movement, choreographed action and works-in-progress with its ‘Summer of Dance’ season, showcasing diverse talents, communities, and genres.

Let’s Dance!
Dance like nobody’s watching as we kick off our Summer of Dance with an all-inclusive dance party destined to get you moving. Featuring a range of amazing local dance schools, culturally diverse community groups and inspiring dancers gathered through call–out and by invitation. No dance experience necessary. All ages and abilities welcome.

Amrita Hepi: In Residence
Award-winning First Nations artist and choreographer from Bundjulung (Australia) and Ngāpuhi (New Zealand) territories, Amrita Hepi is our summer artist in residence, taking over the Long Room with An Extimate Surface: a program of film, performance and installation that sees place and dance making in action.

Amrita Hepi: Opening Afternoon
In collaboration with Sibling Architecture and in consultation with other dance communities, Amrita will create a dance floor that will act as a choreographic score for a salon of performances.

Pacific Essence: Tales of a Migrant Plantation
A fusion of culture, performance, dance, art and storytelling shared through the lives of LGBTIQA+ individuals from the Pacific diaspora. Join local Melbourne-based Samoan fa’afafine / trans advocate of colour activist, speaker, performer and storyteller Amao Leota Lu on a journey with her extended Rainbow family through the highs and lows, tears and laughter – embracing the notion “You’re welcome at our table.”
