Becoming one of the longest trails in Victoria, this spectacular 160km is a challenging 13-day/12-night hiking experience through a variety of terrain in the Grampians National Park (Gariwerd), showcasing the extreme beauty of the park in its entirety.

Starting at Mt Zero in the north and heading south, the trail passes over the summit of Gar (Mt Difficult), continues through Halls Gap with hiking highlights including Redman Bluff, Major Mitchell Plateau and Mt Abrupt before reaching Dunkeld in the south. With the rugged mountain peaks of Mount Rosea in the distance, guests can inspect Grand Canyon’s age-old rock features while also stopping by the Pinnacle Lookout to get a 360-degree view of the place. You’ll be able to stay at unique hike-in campgrounds along the trail, climb dramatic mountain peaks with panoramic views, and hike along rugged rocky ridgelines, as well as experience a rich diversity of flora and fauna and the ancient Aboriginal culture of Gariwerd.

That’s just the beginning – this thing will unpack and excavate corners of the Grampians you won’t have seen before.

Whilst extensive in its entirety, the trail has been designed so everyone can get some use out of it and is split up into sections to cater for all calibre of walkers, whether it experienced hikers, independent wanderers or school groups.

One section of the trail has been opened since late 2019 – a 36km, three-day circuit walk leaving from Halls Gap. The last two years have seen the remaining sections of the track completed following multiple setbacks due to the recurring Victorian lockdowns.

This is an incredible addition to the Grampians National Park, which is part of the Gariwerd Aboriginal cultural landscape. The park is heritage listed for its Aboriginal significance (there is a large number of ancient rock art paintings and shelters in the area), its abundance of animal and plant life, and its absolutely stunning and spectacular views.
