The 12-day virtual event is all about celebrating LGBTQ+ stories.

Ran by a group of volunteers who want to bring more diversity to the region’s screens, the Geelong Pride Film Festival aims to contribute to the development of a thriving and vibrant community in Geelong for those who identify as LGBTQIA+.

Following its cancellation earlier this year due to the global pandemic, the Geelong Pride Film Festival is back for its third year in 2020 and it’s bigger and prouder than ever. From 23 October to 3 November, the festival will bring viewers a special online event, featuring packages of films can be watched at home.

The team have slowly been teasing what will be on offer, so far highlighting Rachel Dax’s multi-award winning film ‘Time & Again’; the feel-good New Zealand romantic comedy Same But Different: A True NZ Love Story; and the Brazilian film After Midnight.

The festival will also be screening the ‘Rainbow Shorts’ collection that sold out at this year’s Geelong Rainbow Festival. This includes the documentary short ‘What Do You See?’ from director Michael Bonner, and Manuel Marmier’s Kiko’s Saints.

The true highlight however will be the screening of award-winning short film Life is Fine, a positive, affirming and uplifting and features LGBTIQ+ characters in a regional setting. Filmed on location in the Geelong region on the Bellarine Peninsula and in Central Geelong, Life is Fine was made by a talented group of students from Deakin University’s School of Film, Television and Animation, earning them the 2019 GPFF Uplift Award.

Directed by Daniel Orfali, the story follows Lucas and Dante navigate life while Dante battles cancer. Together they continue to party, swim in the ocean and most importantly, be together. Life is Fine for Dante and Lucas, and when Lucas accepts that, Lucas and Dante celebrate the history they shared and their upcoming future: life together.
