The Geelong gigs raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention

A group of Geelong locals and music lovers are putting on two events to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.

Both gigs will be held in Geelong, the first at Black Hatt Hotel on August 27 and second at Kubu Studio on September 10.

The first event, titled ‘Out of the Shadows & Into the Light’ features local legend Stringybark McDowell, Om & the Pea, Tom Walker, Runs with Scissors, Jane Shearer, and Jake from Audemia. There will also be a sausage sizzle and raffles. The event runs from 2-8pm at Black Hatt.

At Kubu Studio in Geelong, ‘Rock For Life’ will take place on Saturday September 10. Thoughout the course of the event, there will be performances from bands including $2 Peeps, Dirge, The Half Pints, Audemia, Om & the Pea, Tom Walker & the Sick Individuals, The Farm, Phonetics, Sorrow Nation and Capella. The event is in loving memory of Ken Argent.

Both events are to raise awareness for suicide prevention with all proceeds going towards Geelong Lifeline.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, suicide is a prominent public health concern. Over a five year period from 2010 to 2014, the average number of suicide deaths per year was 2,577.
