The free, pet-friendly Vegecareian Festival is happening in Bendigo this weekend

After a two year hiatus, the Vegecareian Festival is back.

Love food and love animals and love Bendigo? This is the event for you.

Held annually at the Western world’s largest stupa – The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion – in Bendigo, the Vegecareian Festival is the beloved regional Spring Festival dedicated to the love of animals and plants.

Since its first edition back in 2013, the festival has become one of the region’s most loved multi-cultural family-friendly events, celebrating the coming together of friends, family and cultures.

Returning for an epic all-day event this Saturday, October 1, the day is all about loving food, loving animals and loving life.

Festival-goers can learn how vegetarianism has developed in other communities; watch cooking demonstrations and sample vegetarian dishes from all over the world; and learn the benefits of a vegetarian diet for your health and for other sentient beings. Program highlights include a Japanese Cooking demo with Rui Jeffrey, African cooking demo with Benjamin Ras Ato, and a Vietnamese Cooking demo with Chris Tan.

There will also be live music from the likes of Mariah McCarthy, Lucy Wang, Nic Lyon and Raziel Gutierrez Soto, plus food stalls and a bunch of guest speakers.

The best part is, because of the emphasis on loving animals, you can bring along your furry friends and even get them blessed by a monk inside The Great Stupa. There are heaps of activities for the kids too!

Oh, and it’s free entry.
