The coast is queer and here to party with Captain Bar this March

words by staff writer

Get ready to spice up your Sunday with a whole lot of flair at Geelong's newest queer event The Coast is Queer, taking over the party scene at Captain Bar this March.

Whether you’re there to flirt, flex, or just fabulously exist, this is your party. Captain Bar will be the place to be for the LGBTIAQ+ community and allies, bringing together the best of fierce beats, cheeky cocktails, and a dancefloor that’ll make you forget it’s even Sunday. Ready to live your best life? Then you won’t want to miss this.

The Coast is Queer

  • Where: Captain Bar, 8 Malop Street, Geelong
  • When: Sunday 30 March, 3 p.m – 10 p.m
  • Tickets: Get ’em here!

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.

What’s On Deck?

  • DJ Spinning the Best Anthems: Expect dirty pop bangers, throwbacks from all decades, and those tracks you just can’t help but dance to. It’s a non-stop vibe.
  • Drink Specials: Because you deserve a cheeky cocktail (or three), right?
  • A Safe Space to Be Your Authentic Self: This isn’t just a party – it’s a sanctuary where you can truly express who you are.

The DJ list is ready with ELKE, EmmyK & Tilly, Paddy Slack and even more announcements to be added – keep an eye out!

The event is the brainchild of Lavina Harte, who came up with the concept four years ago after moving to the region in 2020. Having previously lived in Melbourne and been an active part of the queer community, Lavina was puzzled by the lack of an established party night catering to the LGBTIQA+ community in Geelong. But with the fresh start after lockdowns and a growing sense of community, the time is finally right to launch this fabulous celebration.

“After joining a local football club and being more active in queer organisations, I realised there was a large community within the area, who were looking for a local queer event.” – Lavina

Now, in 2025, Lavina is bringing The Coast is Queer Party to life, offering an open invitation to come and celebrate inclusivity, diversity, and, of course, tearing up the dance floor.

“It’s a fun day/night party in Geelong where both the queer community and supporters can come and enjoy fresh beats from local DJs and a space where you can just be yourself.”

“Whether you are looking for a space to dance or to just catch up with friends over a few drinks, The Coast is Queer Party is your next must-attend event.”

So, make sure you grab your ticket, your ID, and get ready to dance the night away in a welcoming space for all.

Let’s make it a day of love, laughter, and unfiltered fun at Captain Bar. The Coast is Queer, and it’s waiting for YOU to come celebrate!
