The City of Greater Geelong is looking for a highly skilled person with experience and networks in the live music industry across a broad range of venues, genres and programming types to step into the role of the Live and Local Venues Liaison.

Are you a music enthusiast with a passion for fostering the local live music scene? The City of Greater Geelong, in collaboration with The Live Music Office and APRA AMCOS, is on the lookout for an experienced and well-connected individual to take on the role of Live and Local Venues Liaison.

This unique 6-12 month part-time contractor role, set to begin on November 20th, offers a fantastic opportunity to be a driving force in the development of the local live music industry. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the Live and Local program, a 12-month initiative designed to enhance local live music communities and support the long-term growth of the industry.

Live & Local: Geelong’s new music program showcasing, supporting and celebrating musicians and bands in the region

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the live music industry, spanning various venues, musical genres, and programming styles. This is a chance to make a real impact on the thriving music landscape of Greater Geelong.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with The Live Music Office and the City of Greater Geelong to develop and implement a Business Advice Program focused on live music and performance programming. This program will encompass best-practice advice on various aspects, including live music production, artist bookings, ticketing, marketing, promotion, licensing, and financial management.
  2. Plan and execute a series of micro-festival events as part of the Live and Local program, matching local musicians with businesses to foster positive working relationships between local stakeholders. This will involve venue visits, artist engagement, contracts management, and event coordination.
  3. Work closely with the City of Greater Geelong to promote program activities, conduct a live music census, build a database of local musicians and venues, attend working group meetings and local industry forums, and assist in program reporting and evaluation.
  4. Participate in a mentorship with the City, The Live Music Office, and a Policy Consultant to gain a deeper understanding of regulatory and policy frameworks that impact the live music industry.

Skills and Qualifications:

The preferred candidate should have:

  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
  • A strong understanding of live music programming, production, artist bookings, ticketing, marketing, and licensing.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A profound understanding of live music principles and the ability to work effectively with venue owners and staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, social media platforms, and communication tools.
  • Professional experience in venue management, live music performance, or artist booking is advantageous.
