The intimate space stocked many of the much-loved Blackman’s brews on tap.
It’s official, the Blackman’s Brewery Good Beer Bar has closed indefinitely after four years of providing craft beer to Geelong’s CBD. The couple behind Blackman’s Brewery, Renn and Jess Blackman, took to social media to announce the news.
“2020 has been a crazy one, and saying Goodbye to The Beer Bar definitely wasn’t in the plan. But we are now looking ahead and let us promise you this… We cannot wait to be back in Geelong in the future – bigger and better than ever,” they revealed.
“What an epic four years we have had Cheers at our Geelong Beer Bar! We are so extremely proud to have opened Geelong’s first craft beer venue and equally as stoked at how much everyone immediately embraced it. We have met so many beer loving, indie supporting legends along the way and we want to say a huge thanks for your support.”
The venue opened back in 2016 as an intimate space by the couple behind Torquay’s Blackman’s Brewery, Renn and Jess Blackman, who wanted to bring their beloved brew and craft beer to the heart of Geelong. With a desire to spread their brew, but faced with the challenge of competing with the big breweries for taps in Geelong pubs, the couple decided the answer was to put their own taps in their own bar.
Located in Denny’s Place behind Beav’s Bar, the bar was one of the first laneway bars to open in Geelong, and since became a hot spot for locals and visitors to the region, stocking many of the much-loved Blackman’s Breweries on tap as well as been trailblazers in collaboration, teaming up with many surrounding businesses over the years for additional offerings.
The bar closed temporarily back in March following the lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Having only recently opened a beer and burger bar in Ocean Grove last year and with their flagship brewery in Torquay continuing to kick goals, it’s safe to say Blackman’s Brewery will continue fuelling the excitement around the craft beer industry in the region.
We’re really going to miss that little bar.
