The Best Winery Stays in Geelong

Words by Tammy Walters

Nothing beats a day trip out to a winery to enjoy a white-to-red gradient of tasting paddles, eat copious amounts of cheese and cured meats and naturally frolic in the vines in tipsy glee. Actually, one thing just might — winery stays.

Offering the perfect blend of indulgence and convenience, winery stays allow enthusiasts to fully embrace the vineyard experience without the hassle of transportation logistics.

With luxurious accommodations within walking distance of the cellar, guests can seamlessly transition from wine tastings to a tranquil retreat, enhancing the overall enjoyment of award-winning wines in the heart of picturesque vineyard landscapes.

Our region is renowned for its abundance of award-winning wineries and cellar doors, but here is a list of those that offer overnight options.

Mt Duneed Estate

Where: 65 Pettavel Road, Mount Duneed

A chameleon winery, Mt Duneed Estate plays host to a multitude of different events and crowds from wedding goers to live music lovers for the mammoth music festival, A Day On The Green. Day to day, however, Mt Duneed Estate is a local go-to for their $29 lunch special and grape selection of both locally grown and regionally sourced wines. Adding to the wine experience is their luxury container king bed pods for overnight stays, including a continental breakfast, products from The Herbalist and a complimentary bottle of Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine. There are two options available that look out into different areas of the estate: the Vineyard Pod and the Olive Grove Pod.  For a little extra lusciousness, the Vineyard Pods have an outdoor bath overlooking our vineyard which sounds heavenly.

Bellarine Estate

Where: 2270 Portarlington Road, Bellarine

This family-owned, family grown and family-made, Bellarine Estate is a fixture of the Peninsula. With nearly 30 years of grape-growing experience, the Kenny family produce the most exquisite cool-climate wine. Returning this November is their all-in experience of luxurious proportions of glamping, perfect for cosy couple stays, family treats and small group gatherings. What better way to experience the warm nights than overlooking Corio Bay, wine in hand, and a bonfire blazing. They also have outdoor games and a big screen for watching movies. Bliss!

McGlashan’s Wallington Estate

Where: 225 Swan Bay Road, Wallington

Located a stone’s throw from Adventure Park in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula, McGlashan’s Wallington Estate is a dreamy winery for weddings and day visits but their newly introduced luxury eco villas allow you to soak in the rows of vines from dusk until dawn on your private alfresco area. Not only can guests enjoy the cellar door with their house options and FarmDog Brewery supplies, guests of the luxury eco villas also receive complimentary wine tasting and guest rates on wine purchases. Bonus!

Oakdene Vineyards Guesthouse

Where: 255 Grubb Road, Wallington

Oakdene Vineyards is a boutique, family-owned vineyard on the Bellarine, known for its bold blends of award-winning wines. The estate houses the Manor Suite Wine Bar, their dedicated cellar door, the Mr Grubb café, expansive gardens with quirky art, the olive groves for Lighthouse Extra Virgin Olive Oil and two accommodation options. Option one is the Guest House @ Oakdene, a beautifully restored 1920’s homestead with three themed bedrooms.
