The Barwon Club are donating funds from takeaway parmis to sporting clubs in the region

Despite their struggles, The Barwon Club continue to make a difference during the pandemic.

Established since 1990, The Barwon Club Hotel has proved to be Geelong’s leading venue for live bands. They were at the crux of the Geelong ’90s rock scene, and they’ve gone from strength to strength ever since, providing G-town with a steady flow of live bands, cold beer and wild stories… that was until the cheeky COVID-19 messed with their usual day to day operations, forcing the cancellation of all their scheduled gigs and weekly pot and parmi’s at the bar for the past six months.

Despite their struggles within the pandemic, The BC have shown true community spirit over the past few weeks, pledging weekly donations to local sporting clubs to help them deal with the financial hardships caused by coronavirus.

Pivoting to takeaway, the BC introduced Thursday Night Takeway Parmi Night last month, donating $5 from every parmi to a specific local club.

So far, they’ve supported the likes of South Barwon Football and Netball club, Modewarre Football and Netball club, Barwon Valley Golf Club, East Geelong Golf Club, and Waurn Ponds Deakin Cricket Club, with more to come in the next few weeks.

With most of their season’s cancelled, football and netball especially, the BC hope the donations would help ease the pressure of clubs struggling due to a lack of income, and help them prepare for a strong season in 2021.

For $22, you can choose from a traditional parmi, Mexican parmi, Hawaiian parmi or an English Parmi, all served with salad and chips – with $5 of that going towards the club of the week.

To get involved, simple phone 5221 4584 to order between 5pm and 8pm. Pick up only at 509 Moorabool Street, South Geelong.

From today the BC is reopened for dine-in, with bookings limited to two hours.
