The Attics: The Attics

Listening to The Attics self-titled debut is like reliving life’s moments of ecstasy. Performing the starfish in warm sand or riding your bike to buy ice cream on springs first day of T-shirt weather. This album is a large dose of the warm and fuzzies.

The four-piece Colac lads have produced a super catchy, big psych pop sound, multi-layered and kind to the ear. Take a little Pond-esque psychedelic washed out guitar, some Bee Gees soprano end-of-the-vocal range harmonies, jingling bells, punchy organ, funky base hooks, slushy electronic drums and butt-shimmying beats.

Part bedroom recording, and mixed and mastered in Geelong with friend Isaac Barter. The tunes originated from a bunch of electronic songs written by Cameron Wade (guitar/ vocals). The lyrics capture a youthful angst. Dealings with stress, big nights, online romance and pretending to be more than you are.

‘Is This Rolling Back Time’ is a funky beat stand-out destined for dance floor boogies. ‘Wild Honey’ is fun and ‘Drop (A Bubble)’ a fave. Beautifully stripped back with haunting vocals, superbly real lyrics describe experiences of pushing luck. “If the week doesn’t start do we still get a weekend?” and “I’m in bed at the hospital and nobody knows.”
