The Age Music Victoria Awards 2018 Announce new categories + nominee submissions now open

2018 sees the 13th year for the The Age Music Victoria Awards and submissions are now open.
This year promises to be its biggest yet, taking place during Melborune Music Week in November. Working hard behind the scenes, Triple R, PBS, Music Victoria and The Age are proud to introduce some exciting new changes to this year’s fiesta.
Changes that can be unveiled, revolve around the Awards Categories, with Best Global/Reggae now separated into Best Reggae and Dancehall and Best Global, making each their own stand-alone category.
New category, Best Rock/Punk has been welcomed, allowing for Best Heavy Album to hone in more specifically to metal and hard rock subgenres.
Best Female and Male artist category has been replaced with Best Solo Artist category, catering for non-gender conforming artists; nominated will be 10 artists, and Music Victoria’s 40/40/20 gender visibility diversity quota will apply.
Also revealed as change, the Best Aboriginal Act has been renamed The Archie Roach Foundation Award for Emerging Talent, and will now be rewarded with a cash grant and mentorship.
Submissions are now open until midnight Friday 31st August for Artists, venues and festivals of Victoria to nominate or be nominated.
To be eligible to apply, at least 50 per cent of the act must have been living in Victoria for the last two years (at least); they must have released and EP or album (category dependent) between September 1 2017 and August 31 2018; and Venues and Festivals must be based in Victoria.
Submit your entry or nomination via www.musicvictoria.com.au/submissions
All nominees will be announced Wednesday October 11.
