Take a Trip Back in Time With Bendigo Tramways

Marilyn fever has taken Bendigo by storm with the Bendigo Art Gallery’s Marilyn Monroe exhibition now in full swing. In honour of the legend, Bendigo Tramways has come up with a great add‐on for those attending the exhibition called Sentimental Journey on Tram 880.

It is a little known fact that Marilyn Monroe and Jazz legend, Ella Fitzgerald were good friends. How did this friendship come about? The fun way to find out is to climb aboard one of Bendigo’s much‐loved heritage trams.

The tram takes you on trip back in time to the early 1950s when jazz musicians of colour were not afforded the same respect as their white counterparts. Ella was struggling to get gigs at the big jazz clubs and what Marilyn did, turned Ella’s fortunes around instantly.

Besides hearing a great story, those who take this tram get to enjoy some excellent food and drinks, a fabulously relaxing playlist of Ella’s music, all while taking in the beautiful vistas of Bendigo’s historic CBD during this hour long experience.
