Sweet Felicia and the Tradies: Live at the Bluestone Blues Festival 2016/7

A live recording is always a hard project. Very often the recording does not capture the sense or quality of the event. Not so with this CD – with the opening bars of the first track, Mailman Blues, Felicia’s bass comes through strongly with the rest of the band right there too. This is a live recording well worth getting hold of.

Felicia is internationally known as a sensational bass player, and has a strong, distinctive vocal as
well. She is best known in her previous band, Sweet Felicia and the Honeytones, but since coming to the Bellerine teamed up with locals Troy Love (guitar & slide) and JP (drums) as the Tradies.

Troy played with Mojo Corner and established a name for himself for his runaway solos. JP, of
course, has played drums with virtually every major blues performer in the area. Melbourne bass
player, Ben Wicks, also guests on Come Back Baby.

The CD itself contains some well known standards including Little Walter’s My Kinda Baby, a
favourite of mine, and several of Felicia’s own tracks. Her signature tune, Big Strong Woman, is there with some embellishments (not in front of the children please!). My pick is No More one of Felicia’s and a great solo from Troy.
