Sutton’s House of Music to close doors

Another sad day for the local music industry.

Ballarat entertainment venue Sutton’s House of Music is closing its doors at the end of October, after the business was unable to renegotiate a lease with its landlord.

In their three years operating, Sutton’s has hosted 594 gigs, with 233 of those being Ballarat artists, 97 from local high school students, 32 community events and 42 theatrical.

In a statement posted to Facebook, Suttons made the announcement.

“It is with deep regret that we have to announce we will be closing our doors at the end of October 2017.

Due to an in house restructure of business entity earlier this year we are required to have a new lease put in place. After much discussion with our real estate agent unfortunately we have been advised a new lease will not be forthcoming. It would seem our landlord would rather an empty building than allow us to continue even though his bills have always been paid.”

Names that gave graced the Suttons stage include the likes of The Black Sorrows, Dan Sultan, Ian Moss, Ross Wilson, Diesel, Renee Geyer, Beccy Cole, Lloyd Spiegel, Jeff Lang and Daryl Braithwaite, among others.

In the wake of the news, Suttons have created a petition to save Mary Suttons vision.

Make a noise Ballarat, sign and let the local council know what this building means to you, here.
