Saddle up for Geelong’s ultimate summer race day spectacle.

Geelong Racing Club is gearing up to host an extraordinary day of racing and festivities on Saturday, January 6th, marking a significant milestone after being awarded a metropolitan raceday.

With over $1.6 million in prize money and bonuses up for grabs, this promises to be a day to remember for racing enthusiasts.

Keep up with the latest in local news and entertainment here.

The highlight of the day will be the bet365 Coastal Classic, a feature race covering 1700m and offering a substantial $300,000 in prize money. The stakes are high, making it a targeted meeting for many trainers and their equine contenders.

In a strategic move, the Geelong Racing Club has partnered with the Melbourne Racing Club, announcing that the winner of the 2-year-old race, named the Rex Gorell Geelong Diamond and worth $225,000, will secure a golden ticket and exemption into the prestigious Blue Diamond, Victoria’s premier 2-year-old race at Caulfield on February 24th.

Beyond the racing action, Bet365 Super Saturday offers a myriad of on-course activities catering to all ages. The Piccadilly Makers Market will showcase local products and produce, complemented by various food offerings. A beach volleyball court will host games throughout the day, providing a vibrant spectacle, while the Ultimate Kids Zone features carnival rides, a petting zoo, water park, and Kelly Sports Kids Activities.

Engaging with the local community is a key focus, with the club offering community bundle ticket packages for $400, including 20 adult admission tickets. Purchasers of these bundles stand a chance to win a share in a $40,000 cash prize pool. Rayner added, “Each group that purchases a bundle will go in the draw to be allocated a horse in a particular race on the day. Whichever horse wins, the group aligned with that horse will take home $20,000, with money also paid down to last place.”

The excitement extends beyond the races, with DJ Tom Santa headlining the post-race After Party from 5-7 pm. Various umbrella and marquee packages are available for the day, and free buses will run from surrounding coastal towns with a General Admission ticket purchase, catering to holidaymakers down the coast with runs in Torquay, Portarlington, Drysdale, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, and Anglesea.

Tickets and bus schedules are available on the official website.
