Start drooling, an authentic creperie and bar has just opened on the Surf Coast

Coastal Crepes and Wine serves up melt in your mouth crepes.

From macarons and éclairs to brûlées and soufflés, if there’s one thing we really love about the French it’s the slew of wonderful desserts and pastries they’ve gifted the world to indulge in. But their best creation? La crêpe délicieuse, of course!

Regularly sold all over France in numerous streets stands and cafés, crêpes are light, thin and delicate versions of a pancake that can be filled with anything you like, such as fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, bananas and whipped cream. If you’re not into sweets, they’ve also got the savoury version known as a galette which is often filled with ham, cheese and eggs.

If this dessert sounds like something you would drool over, you’ll be extremely pleased to know that a creperie has just opened in Anglesea – Coastal Crepes & Wine.

Taking over the space at 141 Great Ocean Road (just next to Gelato Gelato), the venue is just a stone’s throw away from the water and walking distance from the centre of Anglesea, boasting beautiful views of the coast. The interior of Coastal Crepes & Wine keeps things simple with a wooden fit-out, timber pendant lights, perfect nude-based colour scheme and sleek two-tone chairs to park yourself on in readiness for a feast.

Speaking of a feast, Coastal Crepes & Wine’s menu is an ode to the traditional French crepes, offering a delicious variety of sweet and savoury crepes, all made to order, served fresh and delicious.

For the sweet tooths, choose from the La Suzette, with orange coulis, butter, Grand Marnier, orange zest, vanilla ice cream and a twist of orange; the La Caramel Beurre Sale, with salted caramel butter and vanilla ice cream; or perhaps the La Nutella Banane, complete with Nutella, banana, almonds, vanilla ice cream and shredded coconut. If you prefer to keep things simple, we suggest the La Fruit Rouge, made with strawberry coulis, blueberries and vanilla ice cream; or the La Beaurre Sucre with sugar, lemon juice and lemon sorbet – a classic. These babies are all served with Chantilly cream and icing sugar, truly embracing the French touch.

If the warm galettes are more your calling, you’ll find a tonne of options made with the finest and healthiest ingredients, including the L’australienne with smashed avo, baby beetroots and feta cheese; a La Fermiere with chicken, mushrooms, bechamel and cheese; or of course the La Complete with ham, egg and gruyere cheese. These are all served with a side of salad and range from $15-18.

While the crepes are certainly the hero here, Coastal Crepes & Wine also dish up several hearty breakfast and lunch items, focusing on French and Mediterranean cuisines. From 7am until 11:30am, the diverse yet delicious breaky menu includes an omelette, vegan porridge, Spanish baked eggs, chocolate waffles, traditional pancakes and of course bacon and eggs. For those wanting lunch, there are a few indulging options including mushroom arancini, fried calamari, a seafood platter and pasta, with takeaway options including focaccias, ciabatta sandwiches, wraps, salad bowls and several pastries, tarts and cakes – including Pavlova!

Nope, we’re not done yet.

Coastal Crepes & Wine also offer dinner service daily from 5:30pm to 9pm, giving the surf coast one more late-night dining option. Across the vibrant menu, you’ll find everything from Oysters, Bruschetta, Porterhouse steak, veal scallopini and spaghetti marinara, to traditional lasagna, vegetarian and vegan stacks, fish of the day, and pork cutlets.

As for the drinks, you can expect all the good stuff during the day – coffee, smoothies, fresh juices, iced drinks, and hot chocolate. It’s in the evening that things get interesting, with regular and premium sparkling, white and red wines to enjoy by the bottle or by the glass, summer beers and a very colourful cocktail list. You’ll find all your favourites, French Martini, Negroni and espresso martini, alongside some creative combinations like the Kir Royale or the Mon Cherie, made with tequila, strawberry, lemon juice and soda.

Whether you’re looking to satisfy mid-work or lazy Sunday sugar cravings, or you’re treating yourself to a fine dinner on a Saturday night, Coastal Crepes & Wine is definitely the place to do it… and trust us, these sweet treats and meals are worth every penny.
