The lockdown fix you’ve been waiting for.
Two of Australia’s largest coffee institutions have teamed up for one top-notch tipple that is sure to get you through even the darkest days of lockdown.
Melbourne’s coffee pioneers St Ali and New South Wales craft coffee liqueur maker Mr Black have put their heads together to come up with what Aussies love the most, launching a special edition Single Origin Coffee Liqueur.
Using handpicked ‘El Diamante’ coffee grown by Peruvian farmer Apolinar Arevalo, Mr Black’s ‘Head of Coffee’ worked with the brains trust from ST. ALi on roasting, and blended the clean combination of Peruvian Cold Brew Coffee with Australian wheat vodka and a little sugar. Resulting in the ‘Single Origin Coffee Liqueur’, the collab boasts delicate red fruit notes and a defined sugarcane sweetness, with creamy chocolate and caramel flavours.
Ooooft, sounds pretty damn delicious to us.
“I’ve been a big fan of ST. ALi since I first visited them in South Melbourne some ten years ago, so to be collaborating together a decade later is pretty special,” says Mr Black Founder Tom Baker.
“The goal of this collab was to make something fun and bloody tasty to take the edge off 2020, and give some support to our mates in the coffee industry who are having a hard time of it now.”
Better still, you can choose to add it to your next iso espresso martini for a real kick, or enjoy it on its own – it’s that good.

Back in 2010 – some three years before we started Mr Black – I was taken to @st_ali in in South Melbourne by a colleague. “They’re a Melbourne institution” I was told. I was awestruck – it was the most “Melbourne” thing I’d seen. Down a laneway in an old warehouse, I discovered a church for specialty coffee. In the last decade, St ALi has set the standard for coffee shops across the country – and around the world. Ten years on, it’s a privilege to be collaborating with @salvatore.malatesta , Lucy, Lachlan and the rest of the team at St Ali to create this truly exceptional Single Origin release, made with ‘El Diamante’ coffee that they travelled to Peru to hand pick. This is without a doubt one of the best tasting things we’ve made since. No recommended cocktail here – this one is designed to simply be sipped and savoured on the rocks. This year has been tough on our business (and our friends at St Ali), but your generous support and love for what we make means we can live on to create more delicious caffeinated treats into the future. Thanks for that. Couldn’t do it without you. Tom Baker, Founder, @mrblackspirits
Whether you’re missing your daily fix, or looking for an evening treat under curfew, this is an indulgent distraction worth investing in.
