Opening on the 19th of May and running until the 16th of June, the exhibition is a showcase of one of our most precious resources, a cornerstone of the community and feature of our daily lives here on the Surf Coast. Co-curators Andrea Shaw, an Australian multidisciplinary visual artist and surface pattern designer living, and Natalie Martin, a local watercolour artist renowned for her pieces on native Australian flora, have brought together a selection of local artists to explore what Spring Creek means to them and to create a sense of celebration of this special place.
More than just a waterway, Spring Creek weaves its way through our lives in varied and wondrous ways, which have now been expressed through art in the most purest way.
“This show is timely, with the recent announcement of the final planning policy for the Surf Coast Distinctive Area and Landscape (DAL) program and the protection of Spring Creek”, says Natalie.
“Andrea and I have spent quite a bit of time down by the creek painting together and that is where the idea was born. We have so much appreciation for this natural sanctuary in the heart of our community and we thought a local show could be the perfect way to share that.”
Alongside Natalie and Andrea, the lineup includes Surf Coast-based artists Geoffrey Carran, Nick Morris, Kathryn Junor, Jenna Winship, Simon Holloway, Peta Armstrong, and Regina Middleton.
