Words by Tom Parker

Bringing over 50 of the world’s most recognised artists to your screens, performing inside a true-to-life digital recreation of Splendour’s North Byron Parklands site.

Splendour in the Grass has just announced its new venture, Splendour XR – a world-first extended reality festival set to take place next month.

With the hallmark Australian festival having to constantly reschedule its next edition, initially from its July 2020 date to October 2020, then to July 2021, and once again to its current date from Friday, November 19 to Sunday, November 21, 2021, Splendour took to the whiteboard and came up with a revolutionary idea.

The key takeaways

  • Splendour in the Grass has just announced its world-first Splendour XR festival
  • Available on mobile, tablet, browser, desktop and VR, Splendour XR will bring over 50 of the world’s most recognised artists to the screen over two days
  • The festival takes place on Saturday July 24 and Sunday July 25

So, who’s performing?

Well Splendour XR has put together a magnificent array of artists. Headlined by The Killers and Khalid, the likes of CHVRCHES, Denzel Curry, Charli XCX, Grimes Metaverse (Super Beta), The Avalanches, Of Monsters and Men and Kaytranada will also be performing.

That’s on top of Tash Sultana, Duke Dumont, Band of Horses, The Jungle Giants, Ocean Alley, Spacey Jane, Crooked Colours, Methyl Ethel, Masked Wolf, Russ Millions, Vance Joy, Black Pumas, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Phoebe Bridgers, Little Simz and so many more.

Single user tickets will be available from $19.99 for a single day, or $34.99 for both days. A $2.50 discount will be given to those who hold a ticket for Splendour in the Grass IRL. There’s also the XR Party Pack from $79.99, allowing virtual festival-goers the opportunity to create their own Splendour XR house party.

“Splendour has always offered patrons a deep programming experience with The Forum, Global Village, Little Splendour and more on offer alongside our favourite artists. We could not be more excited about Splendour XR and the opportunity to take the Splendour goodness online to our existing community and also to new audiences around the globe.” said Splendour in the Grass Co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco.
