Tuesday 22 February is officially National Raspberry Drop Day!
Ah, Raspberry Drops. These sweet and sour delights have become an icon of the lolly world, especially in the Victorian region.
Favoured by generations of Australians, these hard-boiled lollies are handmade to a traditional recipe at Brown’s Confectionery Factory at Victoria’s favourite living museum Sovereign Hill – made on original equipment with the (almost) exact recipe as they would have during the gold rush.
Pretty as a ruby, harder than a diamond, these delicious stones are so well-loved in the region that they’ve got their own day – National Raspberry Drop Day.
Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around the region here.
Celebrated on Tuesday 22 February, the iconic Sovereign Hill will kick off the festivities by giving away a complimentary bag of the raspberry-flavoured boiled lollies to the first 100 visitors to visit Brown’s Confectionery Factory on the day.
Visitors will be eligible for one bag of Raspberry Drops per person. The offer is valid with any Sovereign Hill entry ticket or Annual Pass and is available from 10am until sold out.
While the free treats on National Raspberry Drop Day are quite the prize, demonstrations will also be taking place throughout the day, where sweet lovers can see the confectioners in action as they roll and mould fresh batches of Raspberry Drops by hand.
Renowned onsite chefs from the Peter Rowland Group have created their own tasty twist on the theme, creating a unique Raspberry Drop ice cream, only available on the special day from Sovereign Hill’s New York Bakery.
Don’t forget to visit Sovereign Hill’s Hope Bakery to pick up a Raspberry Drop wagon wheel or drop into the Gift Shop to pick up jars of delicious drops to take home as a wonderful memento of a sweet day out. Jars of Raspberry Drops are available in a range of sizes.
