Southbound Fire Appeal Raise Over $150,000 for WA Bushfires

In what seems like a tale of deja vu, Southbound Festival, VenuesWest and Sunset Events were forced to cancel its events due to the unpredictable fires in Western Australia devastating the Waroona region.

Unlike Falls Festival in Lorne that was able to relocate, Southbound and the other WA festivals unfortunately only had 48 hours when the news of the fires was released. Instead, the festivals banded together and put on a benefit gig for 3,500 people in two days with bands JumpClimb Djs, Koi Child, San Cisco, Oh Wonder, Birds of Tokyo, Django Django, Bloc Party and Disclosure playing in Perth last night.

“We were utterly overwhelmed at the willingness of local businesses, suppliers, staff and our local and international artists who dropped everything to make this event happen last night. The people of West Aus wasted no time throwing their support and money behind this event to help out our friends in the South West through this devastating time.” David Chitty – Southbound Director

The night was an oustanding success and raised over $150,000 to be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund – Waroona and Districts Fire Relief Appeal 2016. While the fire is still running rampant and many homes have been destroyed, every little bit helps.

Information on refunds to Southbound tickets will be announced this Wednesday (January 13), which will include information on how to donate ticket refunds to the appeal if punters are interested. Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by the fires in some way.
