Soundwave Officially Cancelled

After much speculation brought on by bands saying they hadn’t been 100 per cent confirmed (NOFX and Bring Me the Horizon) and neither had venues for the festival, Soundwave has officially been cancelled.
The news was broken by Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah via Twitter: “I am devastated to have to announce the cancellation of Soundwave 16 due to poor ticket sales. I am very sorry. I tried my best.”
He then went on to say that ticket refunds would be given from point of purchase, though ticketing company Eventopia have said it is not its responsibility to issue refunds due to advance pay deposits to Soundwave from ticket sales. As a result refunds are the responsibility of the promoter.
We’re yet to hear further word on just how fans will be getting refunds, though with Soundwave reportedly owing artists who performed the 2015 leg more than $4 million (via Music Feeds) it’s causing concern in many.
While it’s certainly not how the festival would have liked to finish up, there’s no denying Soundwave was one of a kind, and had the ability to collate a line up of artists who otherwise wouldn’t play the Australian festival circuit.
Stay tuned folks.
