Some of the best virtual fitness classes for working up a sweat at home

These classes will get you moving in lockdown.

Whether you’re keen to keep your fitness up or you just want something to help you out of this lockdown slump, online fitness classes could be just what you need to see you through!

Thankfully, there are now countless apps and virtual classes (some local too) showing us how easy it is to work out when we want, how we want and where we want.

Here are a couple of our favourites to try while cooped up at home.

Upstate Studios

With two central Geelong studios, a coastal Torquay location, a studio in Newtown specifically for reformer Pilates and a location in Balaclava, Upstate Studios is taking the yoga world by storm.

Guided by their mission of keeping our minds and bodies in a healthy condition, the legends at Upstate Studios arrived last year with their online classes to help us get sweaty and strong from our homes – and it has been thriving ever since.

Whether it’s power flow, Box HIIT, power Pilates or a sound bath meditation and yin sessions, Upstate offers more than 100 live streaming services a week and 120 on-demand workouts. There’s even a bunch of themed classes and meditation for those that truly want to get the best out of their memberships and home workouts.

Better still, it’s only $14 a week – with unlimited access to classes.

Head to the website here to book your class at Upstate Studios Live.

Sweat by Kayla Itsines

This one’s been around for a while but it’s a goodie. Courtesy of Adelaide-born trainer turned world’s biggest fitness influencer Kayla Itsines, the Sweat app is where users can access workouts from her Bikini Body Guide (BBG) fitness program with in-app guidance from expert trainers.

It’s super accessible and Itsines’s 28-minute workouts require minimal equipment and are designed to be done at home.

However, this is not for the light-hearted with a bunch of burpees, push ups and bench jumps.

We like the sound of the BBG Beginner though, an eight-week low-intensity program that prepares users for the higher intensity BBG, BBG Stronger and BBG Zero Equipment programs.

Pay $19.99 per month or $119.94 for an annual subscription. Check it out here.

Life Hub

Aussie gym collective Life Hub are being absolute legends and are running recurring free online workouts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, as well as sharing home workouts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays via their Instagram feed.

Some of them don’t even require equipment or just utilise things you’d have around the house, like a chair. They’re available on the Life Hub Instagram page and are fine for people of all fitness levels.

If you feel like getting involved in a community type challenge, they’re also running a 10K-A-Day lockdown pledge, encouraging people from all over to get in 10,000 steps and share your achievements via Instagram. It’s all good vibes here.

Centr

This one’s a winner. Created by Byron Bay’s literal superhero Chris Hemsworth, this app includes access to HIIT, boxing, yoga, strength training, Pilates, and MMA programs as well as a meal plan that is dietician-approved and auto-generates shopping lists. Talk about the whole package.

Better still, it’s available to all new users totally free for a seven-day trial period. After your trial ends, you can get a one-year subscription for $10 per month.
