Bottles & Barrels

Wednesdays, $30

Not just your average cafe and bottle shop, Bottles & Barrels is now a night-time destination, transforming from an all-day café into a relaxed spot to indulge in a tight European-inspired menu. Dedicated to yummy food and great wine, every Wednesday they offer their famous steak night. Indulge in a tender 250g scotch fillet cooked to perfection, paired with Café de Paris butter, crispy thrice-cooked potatoes, all for $30. Sides and mustards are available to order and you can even BYO from their wine store.

The Geelong Hotel

Thursdays, $25 

Geelong Hotel (better known to locals as GH), is a Friday and Saturday night go to for a classic pub meal, standout cocktails, beats galore and the occasional live music act in their dedicated upstairs bandroom, but on Thursday’s it’s a go to for the steak.

Enjoy a 350g Grain Fed Scotch Fillet served with crispy chats, bacon and onion, or fries and salad, every Thursday from $25. Choose your sauce, from peppercorn, gravy, mushroom, bernaise, garlic butter or red wine jus, and all on some extra sides like roasted potato, roasted pumpkin and spring veggies and you’ve got yourself an indulgent evening.

The National Hotel

Thursdays, from $20

The National Hotel boasts a warm classic pub menu and tanks of Carlton on tap. Their rooftop area is a standout feature from the redevelopment and often has acoustic live music.

On Thursdays at The Nash, sink your teeth into a succulent steak cooked just the way you like it, accompanied by a range of delectable sides, starting from $20. Pair it with beer and wine specials too.

Fyansford Hotel

Thursdays, $28

Located just outside of Geelong, this absolute gem has become one of the city’s favourite country pubs – and its steak night does not disappoint.

Tuck into a $28 300g char grilled black Angus porterhouse cooked to your liking every Thursday night. It’s served with golden fried chips and garden salad topped with your choice of sauce, with the option to add on delicious items like char grilled king prawns, creamy garlic prawns, scallops and calamari, seasonal veggies, creamy slaw or grilled Smokey fried egg for an extra cost.

The Elephant and Castle Hotel

Wednesdays, from $25

With a quirky, yet classic interior, the endless roster of live entertainment, the welcoming patrons and the generous pub feeds, The Elephant and Castle takes steak to a whole new level with their range of flavour-packed marinades and sauces. Every Wednesday, you can choose from a 250g Rump Steak for $25, a 300g Porterhouse for $30 or 220g Eye Fillet for $32, which are all locally sourced and served with chips and salad.

They also do Oyster specials on Wednesday too if you’re feeling a Surf and Turf vibe.

The Sporting Globe

Tuesdays, half price steak

The Sporting Globe is the place to go for sports lovers that need to catch every moment of the game with about 50 plus flat screens, an epic menu and a number of drink specials – along with the awesome game atmosphere.

They’re also great for a cheap steak experience on Tuesdays, with half price Porterhouse Steak served with beer battered steak fries and selection of sauce.

Why not pair it with Half Price Little Bull & TSG x 4 Pines APA Pints & House Wine.

1915

Thursdays, $39

Definitely one of the best looking venues in Geelong, 1915 Restaurant and Bar serves up delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes that complement the top shelf wine, beer and spirits. Experience steak dining at its finest here with Thursday night steak nights. From 5:30pm, choose between the famed 300g Cape Grim porterhouse or 250g Rost Biff, cooked to your liking with two sides for $39.

Murphys Geelong

Thursdays, from $20

A modern space with a gorgeous stained glass enclosed, rooftop bar showing a stunning view of Geelong, Murphys also has a ripper steak night.

Happening every Thursday night from 5:30-8:30pm, choose from a mouthwatering selection of cuts starting from just $20. There’s a 250g grass fed Black Angus Rump, or a 250g Flat Iron, served with fries, salad and paris butter. Delish!

Cremorne Hotel

Wednesdays, $25

With great classic pub meals, cold frothies flowing, a great atmosphere and TAB and Keno facilities, The Cremorne is a local go-to spot and it’s got a pretty nifty steak night to sink your teeth into.

Available on Wednesday nights from 5:30pm, choose from a 250g centre cut Angus Rump or 200g Western District Porthouse for $25, cooked your way and served with chips, salad and your choice of sauce. Sauce options include Mushroom, Pepper, Gravy, Red Wine Jus, Garlic Butter, Hollandaise or Mustards.

You can also order add-ons, including veggies over salad, battered onion rings and creamy garlic prawns, among others.

The Commun Na Feinne Hotel (The Commo)

Thursdays, $25 

Sitting on the corner of Bellerine and Kilgour street, the Commun na Feinne Hotel (aka the Commo Hotel) is a trusty little spot when it comes to a decent deal on dinner.

On Thursdays, the Commo run a $25 steak night, offering 250g scotch or a 250g porterhouse served with chips and salad.

Sou’West Brewery

Thursdays, $28

Out towards the coast, Sou’West Brewery is a worthy destination for a mid-week feed.

Already a standout among one of the coolest destinations for drinks in the sunshine (or rugged up inside), it’s their menu that reinforces just how cool with a nod to all the beer-friendly bites you’d expect to see at a brewery, plus a few special additions – including a pretty mouth-watering steak night.

Running from 5pm every Thursday, enjoy a 250g Porterhouse served with fries, salad and your choice of mushroom or pepper sauce, all for just $28.

Having been here most recently, I can confirm the steak is absolute *Chef’s kiss*!

Grovedale Hotel

Wednesdays, $35

The Grovedale Hotel, affectionately known as ‘The Grovey’, is a cornerstone in the Geelong pub scene – known for consistently raising the bar when it comes to style, entertainment and food.

Every Wednesday, the Grovey offers up a delicious steak night, slinging a grass fed Porterhouse for $35 from 5pm-8:30pm in the venue’s bar areas.

Barwon Club Hotel

Tuesdays, $28

The BC is everything you love about a pub. They have long been the go-to destination for the traditional pub experience in Geelong since it was first opened in the early ’90s, and it doesn’t seem like things are slowing down.

On Tuesday’s, the BC offer up a killer steak night: 300g rump with chips, salad, sauce AND a schooner, wine or soft drink, all for just $28. Plus they run free trivia on a Tuesday with prizes to be won, so that’s pretty much the perfect night out.

Sir Charles Darling Hotel

Mondays and Tuesdays, $29 

From 5:30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, this CBD pub comes alive with its beloved steak night. Get a 300g porterhouse for $29, served with chips and salad and your choice of sauce. You can make alterations for an extra cost, like swapping chips for mash or scalloped potatoes, getting steamed veggies over salad, or adding on Garlic Prawns.

The Sphinx Hotel

Wednesdays, from $25

With an exterior that you can’t miss, both indoor and outdoor dining, a rotating roster of live entertainment and comedians, a sports bar and a menu primed with old favourites and classics, The Sphinx also had a pretty solid steak night amongst its offerings.

Happening every Wednesday from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, choose from Porterhouse for $26, Rump for $25 or a Scotch fillet for $25, all served with your choice of two sides.

Mr Grubb @ Oakdene

Thursdays, $27 

Located in Wallington, Mr Grubb @ Oakdene has become a big player in the regional dining scene.

On Thursdays, you can get a delicious Black Angus porterhouse steak, cooked to your liking with your choice of sauces (green peppercorn, blue cheese and mushroom sauce or garlic butter) and chips or mashed potato for $27.

At The Heads

Wednesdays, $30 

Barwon Heads is always worth a visit, especially on Wednesday nights with At The Heads incredible steak night.

With stunning waterfront views, this elegant establishment offers a dedicated steak night with a $30 Porterhouse Steak, served with chips, sauce & salad. Impeccable service, a carefully curated wine list, and a sophisticated ambiance round out the night for a memorable dining experience.

Meredith Hotel

Wednesdays, from $28 

For those a little further out, the Meredith Hotel has become a go-to spot for a quality dinner. The old fashioned pub hosts steak night from 5:30pm every Wednesday. All the steaks are 21 day aged and come with choice of sides and sauces cooked on the char grill.

Choose from 350g porterhouse for $28, a 350g rump for $28, a 500g rib eye for $40, a 350g scotch fillet for $28 or a 400g t-bone for $28.
