As soon as the temperature jumps up a few degrees, it’s instantly perfect ice cream weather. After all, there’s not greater time to get a cone of something soft and delicious, with the sticky remains on your fingers for hours.
Below is a rundown of a few great spots as the weather gets warmer to pick up an icy treat.
Il Piccolo Gelato – Ballarat
A relative newcomer to the scene, opening in June this year, Il Piccolo Gelato makes artisan gelato daily in store using fresh milk, the finest ingredients and no artificial colours or flavours. Keep an eye out for the limited addition flavours which appear daily, our favourite was the chai gelato. Our fingers are crossed for its return.
Where: 217 Sturt St, Ballarat

Coffetti Artisan Gelato – Anglesea
As soon as we saw a peanut butter flavour, it was a no-brainer to include Coffetti in this list. Makers of artisan flavours and quality, we like to think Coffetti’s gelato is a little bit better for us than other options…
Where: Shop 4, 87-89 Great Ocean Road, Anglesea
Great Ocean Road Ice Creamery and Chocolaterie – Bellbrae
There’s no denying this venue’s pull. Chocolate and ice cream, is there anything else you need in life? While the chocolate is good, the ice cream is on the same level, with various flavours to choose from. A perk of the Great Ocean Road Ice Creamery and Chocolaterie is the lavender maze to get lost in. There’s also an ice cream festival at the Yarra Valley location, so we’re imagining the same will be bound for the Bellbrae venue.
Where: 1200 Great Ocean Road, Bellbrae
Miss Gina Gelato – Geelong
Any newcomer is welcome when they’re making gelato! Opening recently in Geelong, Miss Gina is the newest place to get your fix. And we’ve heard it’s pretty damn good stuff.
Where: 58 Moorabool St, Geelong
Bliss Ice Cream – Geelong
Bonus points for its convenient location at the waterfront in Geelong, Bliss Ice Cream has become a mainstay for tourists, locals and coastal wanderers for the sugar-filled treat.
Where: 8/6-8 Eastern Beach Rd, Geelong
Scandinavian Ice Cream Co – Barwon Heads & Queenscliff
Another coastal gem (we’re sensing a pattern), this business which has two venues is rated highly amongst locals and to no surprise. Our top pick is the creamy and delicious white chocolate and raspberry ice cream. Your hardest thing entering these venues will be leaving with one cone.
Where: 45 Hitchcock Ave, Barwon Heads & 80 Hesse St, Queenscliff
Sugar and Ice – Daylesford
In the creative, peaceful location of Daylesford, there’s an ice cream joint sending kids (and adults) on sugar highs all over town. With a quaint “old school” fit out, this one has locals and tourists stopping by on a regular basis – rain or shine.
Where: 27 Albert St, Daylesford
Yummoo – Geelong West
Offering up frozen yoghurt, gelato and sorbet, it’s a quick stop while shopping along Pakington Street. With fresh fruit available for your Froyo, it’s also slightly on the healthy side – though no promises with multiple scoops of gelato.
Where: 2/138 Pakington St, Geelong West
Cold Rock Ice Creamery – Belmont
While a major franchise, there’s still something so appealing (and delicious) about having your favourite treats mashed up in to one delicious pile of goopy bliss. Hell, there’s even ice cream sandwiches, mad milkshakes and virtually anything you can image. Sugar high guaranteed.
Where: Sop 2/71 High Street, Belmont
