For those with a sense of adventure, guests can venture to the dark side of wine and try the world renowned Muscat of Rutherglen – a secret drink that sits somewhere between a wine and a spirit. Unlike anything else produced anywhere in the world, Muscat of Rutherglen is rich, complex, mysterious and full of flavour. Perfect on its own, Muscat of Rutherglen can also be served over ice as an aperitif or experimented with in cocktails.
For those keen to handcraft and perfect their own unique blend at home, Stanton & Killeen Wines will run a free Liquid Luxury masterclass at Rutherglen in the City for home barrel enthusiasts where one can learn the art of sipping, swishing, blending, and testing from seventh generation winemakers.
There’s also a sparkling masterclass with Damien Cofield from Cofield Wines worth checking out, where you’ll also sample some of Cofield’s finest sparkling wines paired with local Rutherglen charcuterie; and there’s a Natural & sustainable wine comparison tasting with Olive Hills Estate winemaker Ross Perry.
That’s barely scraping the surface of what will be on offer though, with so much more to be discovered.
Rutherglen in the City-goers can stock up their wine collections by purchasing wine they taste on the day. All wines will be available by the glass, by the bottle or to take home.
Rutherglen in the City takes place on Saturday, October 1 from 12pm to 7pm at The Timber Yard in Melbourne. Tickets can be pre-purchased online for $30 here with a select number of tickets also available on the day (for $40).
