The Royal Geelong Show returns for the first time in two years

Carnival rides, fairy floss, animals, is there anything better?

There’s nothing more exciting than when the annual show comes to town—the sweet smell of candy floss in the air, the buzz of anticipation, the rush right before you strap into the ride, the joy of winning a prize.

Well, good news: The Royal Geelong Show – the biggest four-day show in country Victoria – is back for the first time in two years, bringing together the finest animals from the region, huge carnival rides, show bags and fun for the whole family.

Keep up with the latest in entertainment via our website.

Returning to its prime location at the Geelong Showgrounds from October 13 to October 16, the event will welcome back people from all walks of life; growers of produce and animals, creators of craft, artists, musicians, entertainers and many more who come to the show to meet, show and share ideas.

It’s a chance not only for those responsible for some of the best produce, craft and creators in the region to come and showcase their wares, but it’s also a chance to compete in a series of competitions. At the Royal Geelong Show, many competitions are available to enter in the areas of beef and dairy cattle, dogs, fleece, poultry, craft and needlework, woodchopping and more. Over the last few years, some of the more unusual animals have found their way to the Geelong Show, with goats, alpacas, miniature horses and even ferrets and rats coming to compete.

You’ll also find a huge trade expo, tractor pulls, precision driving, stunt teams, whip cracking, live music and so much more among the show’s usual highlights.

Expect all your childhood favourite carnival rides to be in attendance, including the ferris wheel and dodgem cars, face painting, and the traditional fireworks display that attracts thousands of spectators, capping off a wonderful display. When you’re not hitting up all the rides, you’ll also be able to refuel at the food trucks (bring on the doughnuts and the dagwood dogs) or try your hand at the myriad of games lining the site.

Of course, what would a carnival be without some of the latest and greatest showbags to get your hands on. You’ll find Space Jam, Mandalorian, Wiggles, Frozen 2, Scooby Doo, Spider-Man, LA Lakers, Avengers plus a wide range of confectionary showbags too, from the Bertie Beetle Chocolate bag to the latest superhero or TV star, it’s hard to stop at just one.

Celebrating the highly-anticipated return, children under 15 years old can enter the show for free, and it will be free admission for absolutely everyone on the Thursday.

No matter what plans you’ve got for that October weekend, cancel them, as this is one annual event you’ll want to be at, whether it’s to enjoy in some late night carnival rides or to pat some four-legged friends with family.

It all goes down at the Geelong Showgrounds, Geelong from October 13-16. You can pre-purchase tickets here, or just buy on the gate.
