Rossco’s has opened in Geelong West, a tiny retro coffee shop dedicated to sandwiches

Words by Alice McDonald

This cute little shop front has sandwiches that are absolutely loaded with bad boy energy.

After the grand opening in mid-November, the sold-out sign appeared on the door of this slick white-and-red spot way sooner than anyone could have expected – these sandwiches are that good.

Ready to become an absolute Geelong cult classic, Rossco’s in Geelong West is a dedicated sandwich shop offering a modest variety but the finest flavour combos that you’d be silly not to get your hands on one.

Keep up with the latest food and booze news via our website.

Joining the rise of takeaway-only sandwich and coffee shops in Victoria and taking a nod to the old-school milk bar salad sangas, Rossco’s isn’t overthought or overcomplicated. Rather, it’s just focused on providing people with a delicious sandwich

With generous slices of avo, amazing cheeses and the freshest veggies, their menu is absolutely mouthwatering. You’ll find classics like the chicken and mayo, or more exciting creations like sangas decked out with provolone, olive mortadella, salami, semi-fried tomato, roasted capsicum and rocket.

As well as sandwiches, coffee, sweeties and pastries from Local Geelong, these branding geniuses have got the cute little sandwich character logo on hats, pins and totes that are all available for purchase. Oh and word on the street is the coffees pretty darn good too.

Splashed across the creamy white exterior is “Rossco’s” in unmissable bright cursive. As for the fit-out, in an all-white layout with pops of cherry red and a timber counter, the retro vibes are strong with this one. There’s not a lot of wriggle room inside the tiny bright space but it’s not designed for dining in. There are a couple of stools for you to use while you wait for coffee though.

Run by mum and dad of three – only recently welcoming their third child, who also own the Geelong West Social Club (long known as the place to go for a delicious array of bagels), they have had a rough time opening this place but they have finally made it and I’m so glad we were patient.

Remember it’s takeaway only and open Monday to Friday from 8:30am and as mentioned before, they sell out fast so first in, best dressed.

You’ll find this retro shopfront at 84A Hope St Geelong West. To find out more about Rosscos in Geelong West head over to their Insta here.
