Rifleman: Silver + Gold

It’s been a great year for music, with no shortage of fantastic releases to fill our headphones. Among those releases are an abundance of solo projects from established acts, and one that stands out is that of Superheist songwriter founder and guitarist, Richie “dw” Norton.

This driven performer and entertaining individual has spent the better half of the past three decades ripping it up, and now taking the name of Rifleman, this solo project is a breath of fresh air for the heavy rock icon – and fans are definitely not left disappointed.

His debut single, ‘Keep The Story Alive’ was a winner in its own right, displaying the same kind of rock punch and signature guitar action Norton has long been renowned for.

With clear elements of Superheist, which after playing in a band for three decades is more than expected, the 16 track album covers a wide breadth of moods and movements which will keep any rock fan listening to the end.

The third track on the album is a pleasant cover of INXS’s ‘Don’t Change’ which stays faithful to the original with a little bit more rocking – as you’d expect. We dig it.

The title track ‘Silver & Gold’ is a very stripped back and raw piece, taking us on a bit of an emotional journey which ties in perfectly with the album, highlighting dw’s brilliant songwriting and ability to take it all the way back.

‘The Last Love Song’ however stands out as my favourite of the entire album, with uplifting and energetic vibes throughout that encourages the will to sing along.

Full of anthemic masterpieces, this album is clearly one that has been well thought out and created with a shit load of passion that is worthy of multiple listens.

We give it the Forte stamp of approval and it will be spinning in the office to get us through the last few hours of the working week.
