Under the theme ‘Listen Local’, the three times crowned ‘best little station in the nation’ is asking the community to ‘listen local and be vocal’ for the 10-day radiothon, encouraging listeners to subscribe to support the long-running regional station.

A bounty of daily prizes supplied by some of the best local businesses will be up for grabs during radiothon and everyone who subscribes during the radiothon will go in the major prize draw.

If you’re unfamiliar, MAINfm is a not-for-profit radio station local to Castlemaine and the Mount Alexander community and accessible from anywhere in the world through its Livestream. Boasting an impressive array of diversity across music, news and local information, the programs are presented by volunteers with a passion for radio which serve the local community and beyond.

The station features talk shows offering up great conversations about music, cars, food, gardening, art and even the meaning of life. Best of all, music in all its diversity is played – with strong representation of female artists. Shows feature rock, jazz, swing, exotica, punk, classical, electronica, hip hop, blues and roots, reggae and more.

The station contributes to national media diversity by providing a platform for alternative voices. MAINfm also offers young people of our community a chance to get on air with breakfast timeslots throughout the week.

With over 100 volunteer presenters, the station airs 73 shows a week across the grid and transmits 24 hours a day.

“Radiothon is our main fundraiser for the year and vital to keeping the show on the road,” MainFM’s station manager Steph Riddel says.

“We’re fortunate to have the support of so many local businesses and appreciate the contribution of prizes that go toward making Radiothon successful, in turn helping to build the profile of traders amongst the community.

“We’re so proud of the diversity of shows on the grid, and of our volunteer presenters who work hard every week to deliver. It’s a chance for the community to show how much they value the station.”

As a volunteer organisation, all income raised during Radiothon will be used to sustain operations and for future development. The station relies on subscribers and sponsors to pay the bills and stay on air.
