Founded a decade ago, RSOM is an independent organisation dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and nurturing emerging songwriters. Their decision to venture into Geelong reflects a commitment to extending their reach beyond Melbourne’s borders.

“RSOM exists to celebrate, support and develop emerging songwriters. I started this as an assignment back in 2014 to fill the gap in the Melbourne music scene and to provide a platform for local artists to share their music, connect with other artists and seek industry support,” explains Jena Marino, the founder of RSOM.

“Through our wide range of events and programs, we have helped hundrds of songwriters across Victoria, interstate and overseas begin and grow their careers. Last year was an integral year as it was my first full time year working on RSOM and in December, we officially launched our membership platform. RSOM is completely independent and therefore, my goal is to grow it to become a permanent and viable platform for songwriters across the world to be a part of.”

For Marino, expanding into regional Victoria has long been a dream. She shares, “It has always been a goal of mine to expand RSOM into Regional Victoria so that we can continue to fill the gap and provide more opportunities to regional based songwriters.” Geelong was the natural choice for their inaugural regional event, given the city’s burgeoning talent pool and vibrant music scene.

“We chose Geelong as our first city to start this expansion due to the large amount of songwriters travelling from Geelong to our events here in Melbourne. This has been in the works for over two years and after thorough research and discussions with Geelong artists, community is the one opportunity that songwriters would like to see more of in Geelong.

“Due to the success of our Melbourne networking events in terms of bringing people together and facilitating connections, we then decided to host our first regional networking night in Geelong!”

The Geelong Networking Night will feature an exclusive industry panel, offering invaluable insights for aspiring artists. Leading the panel alongside Marino are Christina and Anthony Agostino, founders of Cartel Australia, an artist and label service agency renowned for their global collaborations with industry giants like Peggy Gou, Lenny Kravitz, and Megan Thee Stallion. Their expertise in navigating the digital landscape promises to provide attendees with unparalleled guidance.

The Eureka Hotel, a bastion of Geelong’s live music scene, will play host to this not-to-be-missed event, providing songwriters with the opportunity to expand their networks, forge potential collaborations, and engage with Australia’s leading industry experts during a live Q&A session.

“The Industry Panel aims to discuss our predictions and expectations of the music industry in 2024,” Marino says. “With Cartel’s experience in label services and touring with both of our knowledge on the release cycle and digital media, songwriters will leave the event feeling equipped and ready to make their 2024 a year of growth and sustainability.”

Beyond being an incredibly informative and inspiring evening, the event aims to create a safe space for songwriters of all ages, genres, genders, backgrounds, and experience levels to connect and celebrate the Geelong music community. Whether you’re a songwriter, producer, or creative looking for collaborators, this networking night is the place to be.

“Our networking events have proven to have created opportunities for hundreds of songwriters in the RSOM. Whether you are a songwriter, producer or creative looking for people to collaborate with, networking can lead to an abundance of opportunities including future collaborations and performances. We are proud that we have created a safe space for songwriters of all ages, genres, genders, backgrounds and experience levels to meet and many have met at our events and have gone on to write, record and release music together.

“It is also a place for songwriters to seek support from like-minded individuals and many have just really enjoyed being able to talk about music with many artists.”

Discounted tickets and free online admission are available to RSOM members, who enjoy a range of benefits including guaranteed performances, event discounts, Spotify playlist features, and more. Aspiring songwriters looking to join the RSOM community can sign up here.
