For the first time in the market’s 138-year history, the Queen Victoria Market will be open for late night shopping (until 9pm) and a Christmas festivalĀ on December 23.
It’s expected the market will have 250,000 visitors over the festive season, from that the expectation is to sell around 20 tonnes of prawns, 10,000 dozen oysters, five tonnes of crayfish, 3,000 turkeys, 15 tonnes of ham and 6,300 kg of cherries for Christmas Day.
As for the Christmas festivalĀ itself, the team have worked to create a bustling nightlife scene with over $10,000 worth of prizes to give away, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment and heaps of food and drink on offer.
