Queen of Rock and Roll Tina Turner dies aged 83

The global superstar died peacefully after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich.

Tina Turner, the global superstar and Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, has died aged 83.

Raw, powerful and hailed as one of the greatest entertainers of all time, Turner passed away in Switzerland, a spokesperson announced.

“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland,” the statement said.

“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Another statement was also shared to the singer’s Instagram page this morning, sharing the news to her fans across the world.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the post read.

“With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music.

“All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll sold more than 200 million records and won 12 Grammys in a career spanning more than five decades. She has produced a catalogue of hit songs including River Deep (Mountain High)What’s Love Got To Do With It, A Fool in Love, Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits and The Best and was the face of Australian Rugby League during the 80s & 90s, making appearances at NRL Grand Finals & in several TV commercials. With the Nutbush, she headed a dance craze that’s still loved across Australia today. 

Tributes from around the world are flowing for the late star, including Mick Jagger, Barack Obama, Mariah Carey, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Barnes and many more.

“I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her,” Mick Jagger wrote.
