Looking for something new and socially distanced to do this summer? Yeah us too—which is why we’re stoked to hear Open Air Cinema has teamed up with Disney+ to bring their sell-out drive-in cinema experience to Melbourne, cranking up the projectors for a summer of nostalgic movies under the stars.
Taking over the Melbourne Showgrounds, you can forget scrolling aimlessly through Disney+ or diving into your old DVD archive these summer nights as the Disney+ Drive-In has you covered with a huge program of flicks. You’ll find classic animated films from Disney including The Lion King, The Emperor’s New Groove, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules and Lilo & Stitch. There are also singalong sessions of Frozen and The Little Mermaid, and Pixar films like Up, Cars and Coco.

Much like the streaming service, the Disney+ drive-in will also host a number of other films, including the likes of Pretty Woman, Moulin Rouge!, The Devil Wears Prada, 10 Things I Hate About You, Speed, Gone Girl, Romeo and Juliet and The Greatest Showman. There are also live-action Disney films on show such as The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Cruella.
Featuring a drive-in set up, cars are parked in front of a huge inflatable screen and you listen through the radio. Classic movie snacks like popcorn and lollies will be available, or you can order your favourite meal through Doordash and staff will deliver it straight to your car. How good’s that?!
Appealing to one’s comfort compass, this year there’s a new experience called The Park, where you’ll be able to sit back in bean loungers and relax with table service and a dedicated volume-controlled radio hire. As expected, tickets are being snapped up at haste, so it’s recommended you bite the bullet and get yours sooner rather than later.
Tickets are $40 per car (up to five people) or $40 for a double pass to The Park.
