Prepare the esky, Summer Sundays returns to Ballarat in 2021

The sessions will see performances from the likes of Clare Bowditch, Ella Hooper and the Ross Wilson Trio.

Sunshine, good music and a handful of your crispy cool ciders; is there a better recipe for a good time? We don’t think so. Though make it all free and you’re onto a winner.

Yep, you guessed it… The Summer Sundays sessions are on for another year and boy does it look like fun as an impressive line-up of artists will take to the stage over three Sundays for a COVID-safe edition of the series this January.

While the music is top-notch as always, the only difference this year is the locations. Previously held annually at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, you’ll instead be enjoying those crispy cool ciders from the comfort of your own backyard, with the sessions live-streamed from Ballarat’s three major tourist attractions – Sovereign Hill, Ballarat Wildlife Park and Kryal Castle.

Kicking off on Sunday, January 10 from 2:30pm, the first-ever live-streamed Sunday Sunday will see ARIA award-winning singer Clare Bowditch, Aussie blues and roots muso C.W. Stoneking, and Ballarat born and bred musician and former Epicure frontman Juan Alban perform in the historic surrounds of Sovereign Hill.

The following Sunday, January 17 will see Aussie legends Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi and Hayley Mary of The Jezabels take to the charming location of the Ballarat Wildlife Park, joined by local Ballarat musician Connor Toomey.

Rounding out 2021’s reimagined Summer Sundays on January 24, esteemed Australian rocker Ross Wilson Trio, Yorta Yorta singer/songwriter Benny Walker and talented local artist Candi Wade will perform within the legendary land of adventure, with knights, dragons, wizards, kings, queens, princesses, and fairies at Kryal Castle, Australia’s only medieval adventure park.

Showcasing Ballarat’s attractions and promoting Ballarat as a perfect Summer destination to an expanded audience, the best thing about the 2021 session is that it presents a broad range of music in a completely unique setting for all to see. After all, it’s not often jazz, pop and rock concerts are presented in the company of kangaroos and koalas, jousting knights or amidst the hustle and bustle of an 1850s township!

If you’re a fan of seeing live music in the flesh though, the Ballarat Summer Sunday Sessions have just announced a competition giving a bunch of music-lovers the chance to attend each of the three events – in person!

They’ll be slinging five family passes (2 adults, 4 children) and six double passes (2 adults) which will score you entry to the attraction and access to the VIP area of the Summer Sundays performance. To enter, all you need to do is head here, submit your details and cross your fingers and toes.

So go on, pop these dates in your diaries, and come January all you need to do is round up your mates, pick up a local grazing board and listen to the live steam from one of the region’s cool swimming holes.

The concerts will be live-streamed via the Summer Sundays Facebook page.

The Summer Sundays concert series is presented by the City of Ballarat. For more information head to @SummerSundaysBallarat on Facebook.
