PREMIERE: Ballarat electro-pop duo release kaleidoscopic single ‘Pressure’

It's entirely infectious.

From the Central Highlands of Victoria comes the addictive indie electro-pop duo Odd Tastes with their fresh new single, ‘Pressure’, which will drop this Friday, September 18.

Combining the talents of celebrated twins Georgina and Will Stephens, ‘Pressure’ stirs the sonic melting pot of pop, rock, rap and electro-punk – ‘a sound that is completely unexpected around every corner’.

With unique two-way harmonies that immerse you deep into an eclectic pool of layered textural arrangements, this is a seriously delicious, kaleidoscopic track.

Capturing you from the start, the track is championed by inviting beats, flawless dreamlike melodies and an array of noises, samples, and effects. Mixing the stylistic sounds of Superorganism and Gorillaz, the duo have seamlessly worked their electro flair and knack for rich aural textures into an entirely infectious three-minute track. It’s earworm psychedelia and we’re living for it.

Written for the triple j Unearthed DIY Supergroup competition, ‘Pressure’ was inspired by the tonality and lyrical style of Jaden Smith and Kanye West, written locked down in a two-bedroom apartment somewhere in Melbourne on a tinder date.

“It’s a different style than we usually write, and that’s why we like it… We simply got an idea and ran with it,” Will explains.

“The song is about the everyday pressure of life, and how when we try and elevate that pressure, it usually backfires and makes everything worse… I guess we should just stick to meditation”.

‘Pressure’ follows recent releases ‘Say Hi To Your Friends’, ‘Sunday Night’ and collaboration album ‘AYF’, all showcasing the duo’s undeniable talent to transport listeners audibly through the use of their soundscapes and smart layering of instrumentals, sounds and harmonies.

There is honestly nothing like Odd Tastes locally right now. They are exciting, dreamlike, and unexpected, and you just can’t help but love it.
