The 48th Port Fairy Folk Festival drew a crowd of over 10,000 passionate Folkies each day, transforming the picturesque seaside town of Port Fairy in South West Victoria into a vibrant celebration of music and culture over the long weekend.

The festival, known for its rich tradition and eclectic mix of global and local talent, saw more than 500 musicians from around the world perform across the event’s four iconic stages, as well as in intimate venues throughout the town.

One of the highlights of the festival was the performance of beloved Melbourne-based artist Missy Higgins, who brought the first day to a spectacular close. Fans of all ages packed the Shebeen stage, creating an electric atmosphere that united generations of folk music lovers.

Port Fairy Folk Festival Program Director Justin Rudge shared his thoughts on this year’s festival, emphasizing the curated experience for loyal fans.

“The music over the weekend was curated for our passionate audience, with both fan favourites and new artists bringing something for everyone. The weather turned it on, showing Port Fairy at its best and seeing the shared joy with thousands of punters over the weekend highlighted the success of the event. Thousands of families and Folkie fans in the region explored the beaches, walks, bike trails, restaurants in addition to what the festival has to offer. We are so proud of our not-for-profit event that puts so much into this wonderful community for everyone to enjoy.”

The festival’s lineup featured internationally renowned artists such as Peter Garrett, Todd Rundgren, Bonny Light Horseman, Cat Power, Vika and Linda, Troy Cassar-Daley, Don Walker, Ruthie Foster, The East Pointers, and many more, offering a diverse musical experience that kept the crowds captivated. Additionally, the family-friendly space Folklandia offered a rolling program throughout the four-day weekend, ensuring that both the young and the young at heart were entertained.

The streets of Port Fairy were alive with music lovers and festival-goers, and more than 20,000 people explored the main streets, markets, and activities in the town during the event. Port Fairy’s charm, combined with world-class performances, has made it a must-visit destination for both travellers and folk music fans alike.

Looking ahead, the 49th Port Fairy Folk Festival will take place from March 6 to 9, 2026, with tickets set to go on sale in mid-2025.

This year’s event was a testament to the festival’s enduring appeal, and the excitement is already building for next year’s celebration of music and community.
