Pop artist Cenzina steps off the dancefloor to chat all things boogie-worthy

words by staff writer

Since stepping into the music scene in 2015, Melbourne-based pop and dance artist Cenzina has been steadily carving her own path.

Known for her infectious melodies and energetic performances, she combines her love of 80’s pop with modern dance beats to create tracks that get listeners moving. Her latest single, “The Dancefloor”, dropped just a week ago, and is already gaining traction for its catchy rhythm and uplifting message.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

What makes Cenzina stand out is the emotional depth that underpins her music.

“What I love about songwriting and making music is the freedom of expression,” she says, reflecting on her creative process. “I’m not a talkative person in real life, but through music and other art forms, I can express my feelings and emotions. I’m an introvert in normal circumstances, but when I’m performing, the extrovert side of me comes out.”

Growing up, music became a lifeline for Cenzina. “I started singing when I was five years old, and music was always my go-to when I was feeling low,” she admits. “It’s the one thing that always made me feel better instantly, so I hope my music can do the same for others—bring hope, excitement, and positivity.”

Having been influenced by some of the biggest names in 80s pop, including Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Duran Duran, she draws inspiration from the synth-heavy soundscapes of that era. “I’ve always loved the energy of 80s female artists, the boldness of the music, and the way it made people feel,” she says with a smile. “That era of music was full of joy and freedom, and I try to bring that same energy into my tracks.”

One of her career highlights so far has been reaching 100,000 streams on some of her back catalogue tracks. It’s a milestone that marks the growth of her independent music career. Additionally, her tracks have found their way onto radio stations in the UK and USA, expanding her international reach. “It’s amazing to know that people from all around the world are listening to my music,” she says. “It gives me a sense of accomplishment and a lot of motivation to keep going.”

Her newest single, “The Dancefloor”, embodies the euphoria of dance as a form of escape. With an upbeat tempo and infectious energy, the song speaks to the joy of dancing away life’s struggles.

“When you’re feeling down, there’s something about losing yourself in music and dance that can just lift your spirits,” she explains. “That’s what I want people to feel when they hear ‘The Dancefloor’—that sense of freedom and joy.”

Looking ahead, Cenzina has big dreams for her career. While she doesn’t have a specific ‘dream venue’ in mind, she hopes to perform at more festivals, both locally and internationally. “I’ve had the chance to perform at some smaller festivals here in Melbourne, like Reservoir Stomp in 2017 and Unity Festival in Craigieburn,” she says. “But I’d love to take that experience to the next level—maybe doing a festival interstate or even overseas.”

The future also holds more opportunities for Cenzina to grow her fanbase. “I’d love to do support slots for other artists in my genre,” she says. “It’s all about building a community and sharing the music that means so much to me.”

For now, AmendCenzinaolia continues to balance her music career with her role as an instrumental music teacher in primary schools and private studios around Melbourne. “Teaching keeps me grounded,” she says. “It reminds me of why I started making music in the first place—to share my passion with others.”

With her dedication to her craft and the support of her fans, there’s no doubt Cenzina is on the rise in the Australian music scene. Keep an eye out for her upcoming tracks, festival appearances, and the exciting things to come.

As she continues to shine on the dancefloor, her music will surely be the soundtrack to many more joyful moments ahead.
