Geelong contemporary arts organisation, Platform Arts, have announced the successful cohort of artists and collectives for our 2022 expanded Platform LAB program, designed to support emerging artists develop their practice, undertake research and initiate collaborations that will strengthen the future of their arts careers.
The organisation’s flagship artist development program, previously available to artists under the age of 26, includes artists of all ages and stages of their career, and this year extends to 12 artists and collectives in total who will be supported across four program streams including Digital Residency, Studio Artists, First Nations Studio Artist, and Creative Development.
As supported through the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) fund, Platform will provide time, money, space, tailored mentorship, group intensives and presentation opportunities, as well as in-house technical, producing, and marketing support to five Digital Residency participants, three studio artists and three creative development artists, investing over $100,000 in financial and in-kind support.

The facilitated online program will engage these artists, encouraging rigorous artistic discourse and supporting each to develop new artists works for national presentation. In addition to the Platform LAB framework, these artists will receive a twelve-month digital residency, industry mentorship and/or subsidised stipend to engage collaborators, access to curated artist and industry conversation series and supported national outcomes.

Studio artist participants will have their own studio space, including a designated studio to support a First Nations practitioner. Along with the Platform Lab framework, this steam features a twelve-month studio residency, industry mentorship and/or subsidised stipend to engage collaborators, presentation outcomes, along with producing, curating, technical and marketing support.

This stream will engage artists to undertake a short-term onsite engagement to accelerate the development of their existing project. Further to the framework, this stream also features a two-month studio residency at Platform Arts, access to Platform’s venue spaces including rehearsal and performance space, industry mentorship and subsidised stipend to engage collaborators, presentation outcomes, and producing, curating, technical and marketing support.
