Pistol Pete’s powers into Port Philip Bay

Words by Staff Writer

We have The Blues Train, but now there is blues on a boat thanks to Pistol Pete's Blues on the Bay summer series.

Let’s be honest, it was a grim day when beloved blues bar and Americana institution Pistol Pete’s Food N Blues decided to shut up shop. Thankfully for dedicated Geelong blues enthusiasts, Pete simply couldn’t go away, activating a Pistol Pete’s Presents program of pop-up events at partnering venues.

So far, their collaboration with fellow Little Malop Street mainstay Beave’s Bar has brought blues back into the strip, and now they’re heading out on Port Philip Bay for a special summer series, Blues on the Bay.

Teaming up with iconic party boat, the Hygeia, Pistol Pete’s will be presenting four Blues on the Bay sessions, bringing old regulars to the former bar out onto the boat for two hours of rambling and rocking entertainment.

The first event comes before the year is out on Sunday 29 December. Phil Coyne and the Wayward Aces will be taking to the swaying sea vehicle for a Sunday session like no other. The following week on Sunday 5 January, the appropriately names Salt Water Blues will be jumping aboard the boat for two hours of power. Sunday 12 January old favourites and regulars on the blues circuit The Maskell Love Band bring their distinct flavour of blues to the cruise and finally on Sunday 19 January, Owen Kealy Burning B3 Trio take to the boat stage.

Kicking off from 4pm, the experience includes a 2hr boat cruise around the breathtaking bay, taking off from Eastern Beach, and the entertainment aboard at only $55 per person.
