Pistol Pete’s Mardi Gras celebrations return to Geelong for 2023

Pistol Pete's annual Mardi Gras festivities return for 2023.

An ode to one of the biggest carnivals in the world, local blues bar Pistol Pete’s is once again celebrating all things Mardi Gras next week with two very special shows.

Hailed locally as a family-favourite one-day celebration for the past three years, this year will look a little different to what locals are used to, channelling the New Orleans vibrations across two nights and one day in February.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Taking place within the local Southern-inspired venue, the beloved annual event will feature two special shows on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th of February, promising to keep the good times rolling at Pistol Pete’s!

Drench yourself in sequins and kick off the weekend on Friday, February 17, where N.O. Fonk will be bringing the New Orleans Funk to kick off our Mardi Gras celebrations for 2023. Combining the musical talents of Wayne Jury (Vox & Guitar), Tim Neal (Hammond & Sax), Shannon Bourne (Guitar), Grant Cummerford (Bass) & Tim Burnham (Drums), this amazing lineup will be playing classics from some of N’Awlins greatest like the Meters, Neville Brothers, Professor Longhair and more. This will definitely be one helluva great way to get the good times rolling and will have you shaking your tail feathers.

If a Saturday night is where you sparkle, the Mardi Gras festivities continue with Jules Boult and his Redeemers taking to the humble stage from 9:30pm on February 18. With brassy grooves & classic N’Awlins piano, you will be transported to the French Quarter with Mardi Gras classics. Joining Jules will be Andrew Houston (Sax), Aaron Richards (Sousaphone), Declan Jones (Trumpet) & Mark Grunden (Drums). Expect to be up on your feet for the duration of their set and Laissez bon temps rouler!

Drawing from passions of both blues music and the Southern States, owner Pete Raimondo has absolutely nailed it with this upcoming celebration, especially when paired with a menu that boasts the true flavours of southern Louisiana.

Prepare the glitter, block out next weekend, and bring your friends down for a massive two nights of Cajun-inspired frivolities – and as they say, “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”. If you needed any more convincing, there will be also be complementary Mardi Gras beads and drink on arrival to both shows.

Pistol Pete’s Food N Blues is located at 93A Little Malop Street, Geelong. Tickets for Friday night can be purchased here, and tickets for Saturday night can be purchased here
