From the excellent intro track that really sets the tone for the album, to the full-throttle rush of “Uno! Dos! Tres!” this album feels like the soundtrack to an exhilarating high-speed chase or a high energy, pulse-pounding gig at the local Show. The energy on display here is infectious, and it’s clear that this band has a lot of promise.
Right from the start, the opening track grabs your attention with its playful vibe—setting the scene for what’s to come with fuzzed-out guitars, tight rhythms, and a youthful confidence that’s hard to ignore. The lyrics, while wholesome, explore themes of love and life with a charming, straightforward honesty. The B4 Band is just having fun, and that spirit shines through in every track.
How long have you been playing music together? We’ve had such a short but fun time being in a band together! We formed almost a year ago during a sleepover at Lashen’s house. We played a couple of songs just for fun, and it was such a blast that it became a tradition at every meetup. Eventually, we thought, why not post a few clips?—and that small idea grew into the band we are today!
“Uno! Dos! Tres!” is the perfect kickoff, a fast-paced rollercoaster of crunchy riffs and punchy drums that feels like the band’s declaration of intent: they’re here to rock, they’re here to experiment, and they’re not holding back. The song’s blend of fuzzy guitars and well-crafted, sharp riffs gives it a feeling of controlled chaos, like they’re still figuring things out but doing it with style.
Throughout the album, The B4 Band flirts with multiple genres—sometimes punk, sometimes indie, and even dashes of surf rock and rap—and it all comes together in a way that’s both refreshing and raw. There’s a sense of experimentation that keeps things exciting. These are not songs that just sit still—they push and pull at the boundaries of what you expect, while still keeping that teenage spirit at their core. The swagger, the ego, and the passion for music are all on full display here.
What does the future hold? We’re focused on keeping our momentum going, growing our audience, and making a real impact with our music. This year, our biggest goal is to release an EP about being in Year 12—covering everything from late-night study sessions to complicated relationships and just chilling with your mates. This project will be more polished and professional, with high-quality production and songs that truly resonate with teens. We also hope to collaborate with more musicians and talented singers, so stay tuned!
And in a move that surprises yet somehow fits perfectly, the band even throws in a Christmas-themed track. This bit of unexpected whimsy speaks to their creativity and willingness to try anything, making the album feel even more varied and playful. Whether it’s the hook-laden choruses or the well-thought-out breakdowns, each song offers something new, yet familiar, like a soundtrack to those carefree, nostalgic moments of your teenage years.
Why should people listen to The B4 Band? In today’s world, new music drops every second—but we’re something different. We’re a group of real friends making heartfelt music with passion, energy, and authenticity. What truly sets us apart is how we fuse different styles and genres. Charlton brings a pop influence, Lashen is all about J-Pop and Funk, meanwhile, Johan loves rap. The blend of these distinct musical backgrounds creates a unique sound that stands out from the mainstream. Our music offers a refreshing change of pace from what’s popular today.
As a debut, it’s clear The B4 Band still has a long road ahead of them, but they’ve got the ingredients for success. Their passion and confidence leap out of the speakers, and with more refinement, there’s no telling how far they can go. This album is a thrilling start to what promises to be an exciting journey—fun, energetic, and full of potential. If the B4 Band continues to grow and evolve, they could very well be the cool new band everyone’s talking about.
Until then, this debut stands as a bold statement of a band that’s unafraid to have fun, experiment, and pour their heart into their music. The future’s bright, and we’re all invited to tag along for the ride.

Along for the adventure are the show’s original cast members: Lynne McGranger (Home and Away) as Liz, Meredith O’Reilly as Maria, and Andrew James as Jeff.

The show’s lively musical numbers are the work of acclaimed composer and music director John Field, whose credits include The Wiggles and The Cockroaches. Field brings the sounds of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s to the stage, filling the production with earworm-worthy tunes that will have audiences singing and dancing in their seats.

From over 700 submissions, Cassidy’s latest work Monument has been selected, alongside an impressive cohort of established and emerging voices from around the nation.
A powerful and timely work of non-fiction, Monument traces the complex consequences of colonial settlement across the generations of an Australian settler family of Anglo-Irish origins, and the impacts on the Indigenous people with whom they come into contact.

Reflecting on her shortlisting, Cassidy shared, “It’s partly a memoir of growing up and being educated in a settler, non-Indigenous family. Experiencing slow learning about the details of that family history through the period of colonisation in Australia.”
Cassidy’s work is particularly notable for its nonlinear structure, which she described as “zigzagging across different eras”.
“It’s essentially a reflection of the way it felt to un-settle my education of family history.
“It started as more of a personal, genealogical piece of research but developed into elements of more general cultural, social, and environmental interest to fellow non-Indigenous Australians.”
The process of writing and editing the book spanned nearly 10 years, with Cassidy experimenting with various structural and stylistic approaches.
“The whole research composition and editing of the book took close to 10 years, over that period I tried a few different approaches to structure, style, and voice,” she said. “Earlier iterations were linear and chronological but it just didn’t work, it was quite stagnant and inert.”
Eventually, she began to play with the manuscript, cutting it up and exploring how the sections might come together in new ways.
“Each whole section is a story unto itself and treats its own voice and tone and story. It’s very deliberate in that way, that had a purpose.”
The 2025 VPLAs will offer a total prize pool of $315,000, including the coveted Victorian Prize for Literature, the evening’s most prestigious award.
Additionally, the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by The Wheeler Centre, will grant $2000 to the public’s favourite work.
“It’s a mix of feelings following this nomination,” she said. “For most writers, once something’s published, it’s almost like breaking up with someone; there’s this sense for me finishing a book where I’ve already emotionally detached from it before signing off final proofs. Sometimes it feels like an event that has already passed.
“I’m used to being a writer of poetry and the life of poetry collections in literary publishing in Australia has nothing to do with annual timelines. It’s a bit out of time, so that’s the lovely thing about shortlisting for awards or submissions is you get this unexpected recovery of a work you’ve packed up, it gives it a second life for you.”
The winners of the 2025 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards will be revealed later this year and voting is now open for the People’s Choice Award; have your say at The Wheeler Centre.
Winners will be announced at a special ceremony in Melbourne and live-streamed on The Wheeler Centre website on Wednesday 19 March.
The proposed funding would go towards a National All-Ages Events Teams program aimed at providing live music experiences to over 120,000 young people, creating 1200 new jobs, and fostering stronger community connections across regional and outer suburban areas.

This initiative, launched last week during National Youth Week, comes at a crucial time as the country heads into a federal election. The Push is urging political leaders to make a meaningful commitment to the future of both young Australians and the Australian music industry by investing in the program.
According to Kate Duncan, CEO of The Push, the impact of live music on young people—particularly those facing financial, social, and emotional challenges—cannot be overstated. “Live music can be a transformative experience for a generation of young Australians that are experiencing financial, social and emotional stress at the highest rates on record,” Duncan says.
The National All-Ages Events Teams program aims to ensure young people, especially in regional and outer suburban areas, have access to affordable and accessible local live music experiences. The program’s focus on youth leadership and community engagement will provide participants with the opportunity to become both event organisers and active audience members. These events will be designed to be drug, alcohol, and vape-free, ensuring safe, inclusive environments for everyone involved.
In its first phase, the program will embed 25 teams of young participants into their local communities, where they will receive grants, wrap-around support, and training to deliver music events that are low or no-cost for their communities. The program will not only give young people the chance to engage with live music but will also help strengthen the connection between young Australians and their local communities.
Duncan highlights the far-reaching benefits of such an investment, stressing that the program will be a cost-effective way to build the future of Australia’s live music sector. “Supporting a new generation of Australian music fans as event organisers and audiences will not only give young Australians the opportunity to find their community, but it will also shore up the economic outlook for the Australian live music industry, which is currently experiencing disruption and decline.”
The proposed $6.8 million investment is seen as a vital step in not just revitalising the live music industry but also in providing young Australians with the support they need to thrive in their communities. The program’s long-term benefits will extend far beyond the music scene, with positive impacts on social cohesion, education, and employment for young people across the country.
The Federal Inquiry into the Australian Live Music Industry heard cost-of-living pressures, digital music discovery trends, and the need for industry-focused skill development as profound challenges for young audiences.
The Push notes the critical lack of Australian artists in the 2025 triple j Hottest 100 paints an urgent picture, spotlighting the lack of opportunities for young people to connect to Australian artists and the cascading consequences to the industry and the arts more broadly.

Better Man, a recently released biopic centred on the life of Robbie Williams, won a total of nine AACTA Awards, including the Award for Best Lead Actor in Film, presented to Jonno Davies. On the Red Carpet, Jonno had discussed the making of the movie, sharing that there were a lot challenges, but with those came many highlights. “[Better Man] is a feat of a movie to accomplish. I think performing in front of Rod Laver, around 20,000 people, in a grey pyjama suit essentially, and the motion capture, shutting down Regent Street in London… I’ve never worked with such a passionate crew as I did over here, and I think they’re a real testament to the industry. Just getting to set every day was a joy”.
Pitted against each other this year were married couple Anne Edmonds and Lloyd Langford, who were both nominated in the same category. Speaking to the comedians on the Red Carpet, Anne jovially said “It’s pretty tense, the relationship is on the line”, while Lloyd piped up with “we might have to get separate rooms in the hotel”. Anne ended up winning Best Stand-Up Special, and did not miss the opportunity to rub in the win during her acceptance speech.
Fellow Victorian, Emily Joy, attending alongside the Human Error team, nominated for Best Min-iseries. “It’s so surreal!”, she said about being at the awards. “It’s something you dream of, since you were a little kid. So to finally be here, I can’t believe it yet, I’m still pinching myself”.
“I’m actually looking forward to seeing Russell Crowe on stage, and…to see Henry Cavill…I think that would be my highlight for the night”, shared Cameron Leonard, when asked what he was most looking forward to from the ceremony. “I need to relax!”, he joked. The Henry Cavill love was shared by Aussie heart throb Lincoln Lewis, saying “you could put Henry Cavill in any role on Earth and he’d kill it”.

AACTA Youth Ambassador Charlotte Stent shared that “the last year has been an absolute privilege. I love working with AACTA. I have been grateful to attend many screenings, meet some incredible people, and networking is one of my favourite things”.
Making a splash on the Red Carpet was the cast from Boy Swallows Universe, who together achieved 12 wins. Born in regional Victoria, Travis Fimmel who portrayed Lyle in the series, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, alongside fellow cast members Simon Baker, Bryan Brown, and winner Lee Tiger Halley.
The 2025 AACTA Awards Red Carpet was a hive of activity, giving the chance for our many talented Aussies and international creatives to network, get all glammed up, and to celebrate the hard work that they’ve poured into their projects that hit our screens over the past year.
Thank you to the AACTA team for having us along – we look forward to being back on the Red Carpet, among all the excitement next year!

Entertainment Booker John Waller, a local musician and school teacher, has been orchestrating Sunday afternoon gigs for almost a year, quickly becoming an integral part of the hotel’s vibrant offering.

“We started doing it to boost Sunday afternoon attendance,” Waller explains. “Being a local, I began by featuring some cover artists and past students, and over time, we’ve gradually transitioned into showcasing original artists and bands. It’s been a huge success.”
The Sunday session, held from 3-5pm, caters to a wide range of audiences, from young families and parents to the older generation, making it an ideal time slot for those who struggle to make it to late-night shows. The timing has turned out to be a sweet spot that helps bring in a diverse crowd.
“It’s the perfect window for families and people of all ages to come together and enjoy live music,” Waller says. “We’ve now started attracting Melbourne-based acts, as word is spreading. The goal is to keep a mix of original and cover music, with a band playing once a month and smaller acts filling the other weeks.”
Birregurra, with a population of around 900, is a town where music is close to the heart. Though small, the community is vibrant, with a few hidden gems like the Royal Mail Hotel that have become hubs for creativity and connection. As Waller points out, the town is home to a “music-minded community,” but there was a noticeable gap when it came to live performances.
“We’re filling that gap,” he says. “There are plenty of talented artists in the area, and we want to offer them opportunities to perform. There’s a dormant music network here, and we want to tap into it.”
The hotel’s owners, Paul Watkin and Sarah Dickinson, have played a integral role in making this dream a reality. After purchasing the Royal Mail Hotel in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple undertook a full renovation which took a year to complete. The result is a beautifully fitted-out space with a fantastic beer garden, new acoustic panels for top-notch sound quality, and a revamped commercial kitchen.
“We wanted to make it a special place for both locals and visitors,” says Dickinson. “It’s become a hub of the town now, and we’ve been fortunate to have our fabulous chef for the last 3.5 years. Our food and wine list have gotten quite the reputation, and people travel from far and wide to experience it.”
View this post on Instagram
The Royal Mail Hotel’s focus on live music has proven to be a winning combination with the town’s residents. Waller’s passion for local talent has made him a beloved figure in the community, and Watkin and Dickinson are quick to sing his praises.
“Johnny has become part of our family. He’s the expert in music, and we’re so grateful for the way he’s nurtured this space,” says Dickinson. “It’s not just about the music—it’s about offering something back to the town. We’re thrilled to see the town turning into a regular destination for live music.”
While the wonderful Birregurra Hall also hosts live performances for some big names, the Royal Mail Hotel’s initiative has created a space for smaller, up-and-coming acts to shine. The aim is to continue to foster a diverse range of musical acts and make the hotel a regular destination for live entertainment.
For artists looking to snag a spot at The Royal Mail Hotel Birregurra, email [email protected].
With Waller’s expertise, the support of passionate owners, and a community eager to embrace live music, the Royal Mail Hotel is helping to revitalize Birregurra’s music scene—one Sunday afternoon at a time.

Nursery Crimes are back and heading to rock the Balnarring Bowlo for an all ages gig.
Back in the day, Nursery Crimes supported many overseas touring acts including Fugazi, ALL, Rollins Band and Faith No More, and spearheaded the All Ages Show movement that exploded in the early 90’s.
After hanging up their instruments in 1993, Nursery Crimes have popped up for various reunion performances to support punk pop icons Hard-ons and Descendents. In December 2024, the band performed their first headline show in 17 years with a reinvigorated lineup and to great reviews. The band is on fire and the energy and joy in the room was palpable.
In 2025, the band will record new material, tour interstate, and play a select number of Victorian shows.
The first of these special shows is at Balnarring Bowls Club, kicking off at 8pm, 22nd February, supported by local Peninsula legends Dirt Road Wave and Quaid. Nursery Crimes will feature songs from all their releases, including the hit singles “Torn Up Inside,” “Marked by Time,” and Eleanor Rigby.”

This time Adams has brought his So Happy It Hurts Tour which kicked off in New Zealand last week, with the first Australian show in our great city of Melbourne. The sizzling summer weather accompanied the hordes of keen concert-goers en route to Rod Laver Arena, ready for their hot date with Bryan Adams. Hitting the bar to hydrate before the show, I saw the crowd chomping at the bit to get to their seats and get the night started.
Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Supporting the tour was UK singer-songwriter, James Arthur. The former X-Factor winner opened the night with his five-piece band, navigating through some of his biggest hits including ‘Celebrate’, ‘Impossible’, ‘Lasting Lover’, and my personal favourite, ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’. Arthur joked that he only had 12 fans in the room, but that could not be further from the truth with the majority of the audience singing along and fully engrossed in his heartfelt songs that showcase his hauntingly beautiful voice. His cover of Christina Perri’s love song ‘A Thousand Years’ had the crowd ecstatic and raring for the night ahead.
A sold-out show meant the arena was jam-packed, and with the balmy air thick with excited anticipation it was show time as the introduction video played out with the spoken intro to ’Kick Ass’ which revved the audience right up as it hit its crescendo into the music, which then had Bryan Adams appearing out of nowhere from the darkness of the stage. With the stage drenched in fiery red lighting, the crowd completely erupted and were up from their seats dancing.
Now I do have a confession to make that I was today years old when I realised in this moment that the bass player in Bryan Adams’ band is… Bryan Adams! With his three-piece band in tow, his classic hits were being thrown at us left, right, and centre with ‘Can’t Stop This Thing We Started’, ‘18 Til I Die’ and ‘Please Forgive Me’ absolutely rocking the room and had every single person in the place singing along. His music brings this huge hit of nostalgia, and it certainly had us ‘thinkin’ about our younger years’ as each song transported everyone back to a moment and memory in time.
With multiple mics set up around the stage, Bryan worked the whole area including the catwalk off the front of the stage, chopping and changing mics ensuring everyone in the audience got the best view possible. ‘Shine A Light’ is a song that was written for his father, however this night it was dedicated to the late great Michael Gudinski, as he’d been Bryan’s promoter since he first visited Australia back in 1984.
Putting on his most hilarious Australian accent, he exclaimed that he still expected Michael to come bowling in to say “Bloody hell Bryan! A sold-out show!” This was certainly a moving and goosebump inducing moment as the room was lit up with twinkling phone lights to set the mood for the moving song. Another moving dedication was to the legendary Tina Turner as he sang their duet ‘It’s Only Love’ and was certainly a crowd favourite.
90’s hit ‘When You’re Gone’ which he originally sang with Spice Girl Melanie C also had the crowd singing every word as he played an acoustic version with just his guitar. ‘The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You’ had the crowd going a little feral, and with it’s provocative lyrics and gritty guitar riff it’s certainly one of my personal favourites. Songs like ‘Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman’, ‘Heaven’ and ‘Everything I Do(I Do It For You)’ really got the hearts fluttering and the ladies swooning whilst they melted through the floor, and absorbing the tender lyrics of each I couldn’t help but think that with Valentines Day just around the corner a lot of blokes could take a leaf or six out of Bryan Adams’ book.
‘You Belong To Me’ brought some fun and hilarity as Adams told everyone it was a dance song and that the cameras would be looking for the best dancer but if you couldn’t dance, then taking your top off and swinging it above your head was a sufficient effort. Some of the sights on the big screen of the keen punters topless and shaking their thang really was hilariously entertaining.
Cruising through more classics like ‘Back To You’, ‘Summer of 69’ and ‘Run To You’, Bryan’s energy was high as he swapped between bass guitar, electric and acoustics guitars and even harmonica, and the crowd were hanging onto every single note. During the night there were two epic blimps that floated over the crowd, the first prior to him coming on was a huge silver boxing glove to promote his new song ‘Roll With The Punches’, and the second a large car with working head and brake lights with his name and ‘So Happy It Hurts’ scrawled up the side. A very cool edition to what was already an incredible show. Finishing off his banger-riddled set was ‘Cuts Like A Knife’ and a cover of Frankie Valli’s ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, before embarking on an encore with a twist. Bryan invited James Arthur back on stage and together they sang James’ song ‘Rewrite The Stars’, before then disappearing from the stage to run through the crowd with his guitar and setting up camp at the other end of the arena on a small makeshift stage, giving those down the back a temporary front row seat. For this, he sang ‘Straight From The Heart’ that he had written for his dearly loved and supportive mother.
This was certainly a night that this passionate crowd would never forget, singing and dancing on their feet for its entirety to this rock and roll legend. Bryan Adams is a true icon in the music industry with his distinctly raspy but powerful voice and brilliant musicianship, and his genuine love and appreciation for his fans is evident in his interactions.
During this night alone he recognised and acknowledged a couple of dedicated fans who come to his shows every single time he’s in Melbourne, as well as getting a fan on stage to sign her arm (Shelley, My Dream) so she could get it tattooed after he’d read the sign she was holding up. With a tight band that includes lead guitarist Keith Scott and his face melting guitar solos, the talented group seem to genuinely have fun together on stage whilst they entertain the masses. Despite a career that has spanned over 40 years he’s still going strong and appears ageless as there is no hint of slowing down anytime in the next four decades. Bryan proved that he can till turn your fire on no matter who you are.
This was such a memorable and brilliant show and departing with a croaky voice from all the singing is a sure sign that this won’t be the last time that I see this rock icon in action.
This is one show not to miss so if ‘you’re wanderin’ around the house all night, wondering what the hell to do’, get your mits on some tickets and go and catch him whilst he’s here, because I can guarantee you won’t regret it.
The trio, consisting of frontman Murph, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, and drummer Dan Haggis, have been riding a wave of success since their 2007 debut A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, and the momentum has only grown stronger.

As The Wombats continue their career, their core audience remains fiercely loyal. Oh! The Ocean, their forthcoming album, is set to showcase the band’s signature blend of cathartic emotional honesty and infectious melodies. The album dives deep into the human condition, exploring the need to throw ourselves into wild, often self-destructive experiences as a way of escaping inner turmoil. The latest single, ‘Can’t Say No,’ speaks to this theme, with Murph singing about reckless escapades like car theft, vandalism, and demon worship, all in an effort to avoid confronting pain.
“We’d rather run away than feel at all,” he croons, capturing the essence of youthful defiance and emotional vulnerability.
Recorded in Los Angeles with new producer John Congleton (known for his work with St. Vincent, Wallows, and Death Cab for Cutie), Oh! The Ocean marks a new sonic chapter for the band. The Wombats recorded 50 new songs in six weeks of intense sessions, pushing their sound to new limits. The album’s title was inspired by a moment of clarity Murph had during a family holiday. Oh! The Ocean symbolizes a turning point for the band as they move into a more mature phase of their career.
To celebrate the release, The Wombats will embark on their biggest UK tour yet, hitting arenas across Nottingham, London, Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds. Following the UK dates, they’ll bring their electrifying performance to fans down under.
Oh! The Ocean is set to be another chapter of triumph for The Wombats, who have proven time and again that their blend of catchy, relatable tunes and emotional depth is a recipe for lasting success.

Intuitive Garden Design was founded by Shaun, after completing a shamanic permaculture course in Peru.
Now once a year, Shaun also uses these principles to bring together community, local artists and businesses to help raise funds for a selected organisation, this year it’s the deserving Ambulance Victoria.
The Intuitive Day Out will bring together Ridzy Ray, Wild Gloriosa and Dennis DJ, and Shaun says you won’t get to see Wild Gloriosa this intimately for a while after the show, as she is booked and busy!
Finn’s Oyster Bar will be slinging their juicy, vitamin-packed super foods all day, with Bellagreen Organic Farm hosting a workshop to teach you how to grow food all year long.
It’s a family affair, so kids are welcome in for free!
Invite some mates, come hang with community, connect with new and old friends and enjoy a relaxing day for a great cause.
