Oxygen College opens its doors to Ballarat creatives

Curious about a career in the creative arts? Looking to pursue photography, visual arts or digital content creation? Oxygen College Ballarat Campus is your home for honing industry-level skills.

As the end of the school year draws closer for year 12 students across Victoria, thinking about the next step in your study and career is a high priority. If you have a creative mind and an imaginative eye Oxygen College has courses for you.

With multiple campuses across Victoria including Ballarat, Geelong and Werribee, Oxygen College has grown to become the go-to institute for accreditation training in the arts. Their Ballarat Campus will invite prospective students for 2025 to check out their facilities and chat through courses at their annual Open Day, coming up on Saturday 12 October.

Split across part-time and full-time designations, the registered training organisation offers nationally accredited qualifications in Visual Arts, Photography and Digital Content Creation at their Ballarat Campus, with full-time courses requiring a 3 days per week commitment and part-time courses requiring only 3 hours per week.

The Open Day is a chance to see the facilities, check out the equipment available for training, meet the highly skilled and knowledgeable trainers and get information on their unique programs. To get you started here is a rundown of their three course offerings.

Visual Arts

Commitment: Part- Time

Offering: Certificate III / Certificate IV

If you have an eye for art, The Visual Arts course is a great introduction to the world. Certificate III is targeted at beginner level where students learn to produce paintings and drawings to an exhibition quality. During the course, students will learn to develop and refine drawing and painting techniques, think creatively and produce their own artworks ready to exhibit. Through a practical, hands-on approach, the program will give students confidence as an artist and sims to establish individual artistic style. Taking it to the next level the Certificate IV builds on the skills developed in Certificate III, pushing students to creatively explore diverse mediums and begin to develop meanings and concepts to develop their arts practice to a high standard.

Professional Artist Program

Commitment: Full- Time

Offering: Certificate IV of Visual Arts, Diploma of Visual Arts and Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts

The ‘Professional Artist Program’ is a two-year course that delivers three qualifications combined – in year one students will study a CUA41320 Certificate IV in Visual Art and a CUA51120 Diploma of Visual Arts combined to form a full-time study load. In year two, students will then progress to a CUA60720 Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. This course is for the artist committed to their craft, ready to level up their skills and start their professional artist journey.

Digital Content Creation

Commitment: Full-Time

Offering: Diploma of Screen and Media

In a world of social media and content creation popularity, the Diploma of Screen and Media is a unique course that combines a variety of disciplines transferable to multiple job roles, specifically designed to prepare students with a versatile skill-set that is adapted to the current digital content industry. The course covers developing creative minds astute to the digital world and producing content for real industry outcomes.

Photography

Commitment: Part-Time

Offering: Certificate III / Certificate IV

This beginners course gains students a Certificate IV in Photography and Digital Imaging. The photography course aims to get students comfortable with shooting with a DSLR camera, developing the necessary skills for photo setup, execution and editing. For the ultimate skill development and diversification, Photography is coupled best with Digital Content Creation.
