Lodging, camping and glamping - we've got you covered.

With winter just around the corner you might be thinking it’s a good time to rug up and stay at home with the comforts of your bed, blankets and hot drinks. And you’d be absolutely right…

But also you’d be WRONG!

Winter is one of the best times to get out and about in our lovely home state, because I’ve got one word for you…snow.

That’s right, the snow season is almost upon us, so it’s time to get those thermals out of the cupboard, zip up a fluorescent jacket and make your way to any one of Victoria’s Alpine getaways! Not sure where to start? We’ve got some suggestions for anyone that wants to rough it, stay somewhere nice and cozy or maybe try something in between.

For ski enthusiasts looking for an overnight stay mountainside, Breathtaker Hotel & Spa needs no introductions. With a large variety of beautiful rooms all positioned in prime locations, a stay here is a no brainer. That’s not even taking into account the spa and massage packages that are available, truly the best way to defrost after a day in the snow. Mt Buller of course, has some of the best skiing in the country, but those who perhaps aren’t as fleet footed will find plenty of stunning views to enjoy as well as the National Alpine Museum, scenic chairlift rides and even dogsled tours! If you’re after a day trip up the mountain, staying at the always beautiful Mansfield is a popular choice.

Looking for a skiing adventure a bit further from Melbourne? Head North East and shoot for Falls Creek or Mt Buffalo and while you’re there, make sure you spend time in Bright or Mt Beauty respectively to support any number of the wonderful local businesses in the area.

Now for you campers, might we turn your attention back to the Mt Buller region and present the fantastic little spot that is Craig’s Hut. This little gem of Victoria’s east is a great historic site that some of you might recognize from ‘The Man From Snowy River’. But the main attraction here is the view, which is simply stunning. Camp under the stars and bask in that glorious sunrise, you’ll thank me later. There’s also plenty of bushwalks and nearby lookouts to keep you busy throughout the day, so be sure to pack for a picnic or three.

Don’t think we’ve forgotten about the glampers out there, because we’ve got something special for you. The Grampians are always a popular tourist spot this time of year and it’s easy to see why. Gorgeous vistas, waterfalls, historic sites, lookouts, The Grampians really have it all. So the fact that you can camp in your own luxurious boho inspired tent while you explore the region is just the icing on the cake. Wanderlust Glamping has a variety of tent styles and sites for you to choose from, plus a bottle of bubbles to share as part of your package, giving you the best of the outdoors and luxury accommodation.

Hopefully this list gives you a little bit of inspiration for your upcoming winter getaway, but if you need more ideas, take a look at Forte’s Travel Guides!
