The family behind Botanical Brew have garnered a cult following for their wholesome fermented drinks over the years, and now they’ve combined their passion for bringing interesting flavours to the region with FUNK, their fermentation concept store.
Nestled inconspicuously amongst the Shannon Avenue shopping village is Funk, a little oasis for lovers of baked goods, paired with a well-kept garden.
From afar, the former veterinary clinic offers little insight as to what treasure can be found inside, aside from its alluring and illuminated orange ‘FUNK’ moniker.

Once you open the door to the beautifully refurbished brick building you will be greeted by at least two smiling faces (sometimes as many as 6 – and be assured this is impressive when you see size of the space). Despite the compact space, Funk’s offerings are in no way limited or restrictive.
For sweets think of an evolving list of Nan’s classics: melting moments and monte carlo’s, and be sure to pair with a coffee (beware – you might have a new favourite, sorry Nan).
While the treats will keep the sweet tooth at bay, the real reason to visit Funk is the ferments. The bread is crafted lovingly (over many hours), and pairs perfectly with the humble ham and cheese.
Be sure to capitalize on the visit by stocking up on some of the Funk team’s (Botanical Brew) fermented goodness in the fridge.

If you have the time, soak up some rays outside and enjoy your goodies amongst the manicured garden with its fresh produce. If you time your visit you might even be offered something from the garden to try.
