The blues and roots virtuoso has had an illustrious career built on the foundations of brilliant music and since day one, he’s always on the go, showcasing his craft to audiences across Australia and around the world.
From the age of eight, Achison began picking up various instruments – harmonica, trumpet, saxophone, and drums – to find that his true passion lay with the guitar. “When I finally got my hands on the guitar it all started to come together. For whatever reason, I felt that I could make music, almost immediately. I’m still learning; I practice every day,” he says.
At the age of 13, he began playing in his father’s band and after moving to Melbourne, discovered his love for blues music, later joining with legendary bluesman Dutch Tilders, establishing himself as a fine lead guitarist before striking out with his own.
In 1994, Achison released his debut album Big Machine and since then has gone in leaps and bounds, exploring a myriad of themes from love and loss to politics and philosophy, becoming a driving force on the Australian blues/roots scene inspiring and influencing many of his younger compatriots.
From relocating to the US, managing a jam with Les Paul and earning favourable comparisons to the gruff-voiced Joe Cocker, Warren Haynes and Paul Weller; to winning the coveted ‘Albert King Award’, recruiting some of Australia’s most celebrated musicians with The Souldiggers and releasing several flawless albums, the now Melbourne-based blues-roots musician has clearly had a very productive musical life. Most recently, the legend was even inducted into the Blues Music Victoria Hall of Fame.
An extraordinary guitarist who plays quite unlike anyone else and one to never forget his roots, Geoff Achison promises to deliver regional audiences the energetic live performance and unique guitar mastery that he’s become known for.
