The Wombats, one of the most enduring and dynamic bands to emerge from the late-‘00s indie rock scene, are set to release their highly anticipated album Oh! The Ocean and head out on tour this year
The trio, consisting of frontman Murph, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, and drummer Dan Haggis, have been riding a wave of success since their 2007 debut A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, and the momentum has only grown stronger.

As The Wombats continue their career, their core audience remains fiercely loyal. Oh! The Ocean, their forthcoming album, is set to showcase the band’s signature blend of cathartic emotional honesty and infectious melodies. The album dives deep into the human condition, exploring the need to throw ourselves into wild, often self-destructive experiences as a way of escaping inner turmoil. The latest single, ‘Can’t Say No,’ speaks to this theme, with Murph singing about reckless escapades like car theft, vandalism, and demon worship, all in an effort to avoid confronting pain.
“We’d rather run away than feel at all,” he croons, capturing the essence of youthful defiance and emotional vulnerability.
Recorded in Los Angeles with new producer John Congleton (known for his work with St. Vincent, Wallows, and Death Cab for Cutie), Oh! The Ocean marks a new sonic chapter for the band. The Wombats recorded 50 new songs in six weeks of intense sessions, pushing their sound to new limits. The album’s title was inspired by a moment of clarity Murph had during a family holiday. Oh! The Ocean symbolizes a turning point for the band as they move into a more mature phase of their career.
To celebrate the release, The Wombats will embark on their biggest UK tour yet, hitting arenas across Nottingham, London, Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds. Following the UK dates, they’ll bring their electrifying performance to fans down under.
