Keep up with the latest local festival and music news here.

The open mic festival – which is absolutely free to attend – will take over BrewiColo’s vibrant brewery on Marine Parade for an entire day over the long weekend, boasting not only some amazing up and coming local artists but also serving fresh beer on tap and street food from the Brewi Bite food truck. Think burgers, Kransky’s and bites, paired with their Palm Pale Ale, Ocean Grove Lager, Wai-koula Golden Lager or the more adventurous Brewi Juici IPA.

Delivering a vibrant day of live music, beer and food, Brewicolo owners Kay Godfrey and her partner Chilla Tuicolo have put together a bill including indie rock band Burnt Bails (for fans of Skegss, Run Squirrel, and Foley!), teen musician Mink Mila and her band the Sun Kings who has already toured with the likes of Ruby Fields and Baker Boy, and Elandel’, a three-piece band playing blues and country-rock, plus heaps more.

Past events have seen the likes of Jack Meredith, Across the Vines, Ash Hamilton, Alex Pye, Veronique, Pink Wool Press, One Way Ticket, John Adams and Neil Lester try out their skills in front of one of the friendliest stages in the region.

Dedicated to fostering and promoting live local talent, MusicAles promises to deliver a groovy day featuring some immeasurable local musos outdoors within the Brewicolo venue, which has become well-loved for its refreshingly chilled vibes, large outdoor area and of course the delicious craft beer since opening back in 2018.

Inspired by Chilla’s Fijian background, the pet-friendly brewery has long been avid supporters of local live music over the years, regularly hosting local musicians within their space, from Georgia Rodgers, The Go Set and Justin Keenan to Ben Dew, Andrea Robertson and Sam Hanson, as well as a bunch of local comedians too. They even host regular open mic evenings as well, evenings that inspired the annual MusicAles event. It’s quite clear that fostering the wave of local talent in the region is embedded into the brewery’s DNA and this upcoming open mic festival is just one of the many ways they’re helping revive our struggling music scene.

So, pop it in your calendar and prepare to kick back with cheeky drinks over the long weekend to catch the region’s fresh talent on the mic from 12pm.
