Not-for-profit radio station MainFM announce all-ages music festival Revival

Castlemaine's community radio station is hosting a brand new festival to raise funds to sustain operations and for future development.

Whether you’re a MainFM listener or you’re just a fan of quality live music, the best little not-for-profit station in the nation’s brand new festival will be a must-attend this April.

Revival – A MainFM Fundraiser is a brand-new celebration of the revival of live music in 2022 in the form of an all-ages music festival coming to Castlemaine, on Djarra Country, in Autumn, under a new moon in the open air of Lot 19.

Going down on Saturday, April 30 from 3:30pm, the festival will feature an incredible lineup of local musicians as well as some from further afield including Cookin’ on 3 Burners, Sugar Fed Leopards, Jess Ribeiro, The Merindas, K5, Jen Moore as well as the esteemed MainFM DJs.

If you’re unfamiliar, 94.9 MainFM is a not-for-profit radio station local to Castlemaine and the Mount Alexander community and accessible from anywhere in the world through its Livestream. Boasting an impressive array of diversity across music, news and local information, the programs are presented by volunteers with a passion for radio which serve the local community and beyond.

The station features talk shows offering up great conversations about music, cars, food, gardening, art and even the meaning of life. Best of all, music in all its diversity is played – with strong representation of female artists. Shows feature rock, jazz, swing, exotica, punk, classical, electronica, hip hop, blues and roots, reggae and more. The station contributes to national media diversity by providing a platform for alternative voices. MainFM also offers young people of our community a chance to get on air with breakfast timeslots throughout the week.

With over 100 volunteer presenters, the station airs more than 70 shows a week across the grid and transmits 24 hours a day.

As a volunteer organisation, REVIVAL is a MainFM fundraising event with all proceeds going towards keeping the station on the airwaves.

Dispersed between a solid line-up of diverse talent, MainFM’s finest DJs will keep the dancefloor jumping against a backdrop of projections and light installations to enhance and enthral once the sun goes down. Lot 19 is a family-friendly, all-inclusive, all accessible venue, with a fully stocked bar for the grown-ups and food offerings all day long.

“As a fundraising event, it’s a massive boon for the station as we haven’t been able to host events in the past two years. We’re excited about bringing the community together to celebrate the return of live music to our town and in turn, supporting artists in the music industry and our collective reemergence,” said Station Manager Steph Riddel.

“For a small regional radio station, MainFM boasts impressive diversity on the air-waves so we’ve attempted to showcase that diversity through the line up, with established and emerging artists who all share and emanate live raw energy and positivity.”

Castlemaine is a town renowned for its vibrant arts community on the Bendigo V/Line route, only 1.5 hours from Melbourne. MainFM is passionate about supporting local artists and live music and has drawn on a swag of local talent in the lineup to program a festival of this calibre for everyone to enjoy.

You can purchase tickets to the event here.

REVIVAL is part of Creative Victoria’s On The Road Again initiative in collaboration with the CBAA’s Amrap (Australian Music Radio Airplay Project).
